.....From wall to touchable dimmer switch to back to zero ??

Options
hi all,

would anyone please help me by some little or more bit of knowledge of electricity. ???

Some months ago, i had a normal on/off switch for my lounge but after evening, its so pitch black, its impossible to see anything. so that we dont tread on any of our puppy's toys + with groceries or other stuff in our hands how do we come in etc. So i decided to put a touchable on/off so that you can touch the light and you can see it before you enter the lounge since the button is so close to the lounge door. No way i can remember how i installed/changed that and for months we lived on this touchable switch.

Now what i want is to completely remove that switch and make it direct (no switch at all) as i have connected that light to my Alexa, but i have no idea which wire needs to go where. ?????.....Can anyone please help me ????.... I will try to attach some photos. I am attaching some photos, if its possible and if it will allow me.

I thank you so o so much with kind regards and most importantly,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,S T A Y     S A F E        ! ! ! ! !

A back-on view of that switch would help, to see how the terminals are labelled.
But it appears to be a simple 'com' and 'L1' arrangement as in a standard switch, with - presumably - the two 'lives' in 'com'. But different labelling can be used.
Another piccie, please - but don't kill yourself in the process.

Connecting three brown wires together is the only option I can imagine.
Or, better, replace the switch with a normal one and keep it 'ON'.
    Two brown wires - COM
    Single brown wire - L1

Make sure the power is switched off when making changes.

Why blank the switch off? Just leave it permanently on, so Alexa has master control. Then when Alexa has a strop you can easily go back to a switch. Might make it a little bit safer when you have to replace the bulb too.
Could even replace the touch switch with a cheaper on/off switch, and use the dimmer elsewhere.

Essentially, the only view you haven't taken :smile:I mean a pic of that switch's back - where the wires go in. There will be labels on each terminal.
Having said that, it is almost certainly as said by others - the terminal with the TWO browns is the 'live' supply. The single brown is the switched-live to your light fitting. Ie, this one BECOMES live when ever the switch is on.
I agree with the others - it would be a bit silly, I think, to by-pass that switch; it's the quickest way to isolate the light fitting if you are changing a bulb, for example.
If you really really must, and if it doesn't contravene regs?, then you just replicate the terminal on the neutral side - ie all three browns joined together. Best use a Wago-type connector, tho', as it won't have any open metal parts that could possibly be touched. And they are cheap - check out Screwfix/Toolstation.

Genuine Wago (and other brands) at SF aren't cheap as they sell them in packs of 50+. Don't know about TS.

Toolstation do smaller packs - Depending on the type required, 8-15 per pack and around £6-8 - Still expensive.

Screw terminals in a box with a blanking plate are perfectly fine.
