basically meaning you are being pernalised for being loyal!
You presumably evaluated competitors' credit cards, concluded that John Lewis Finance's product was superior and applied for it. Loyalty has nothing to do with your choice of card. If you're being penalised for anything, it's for not reading the product's terms and conditions.

    Have you read the post?
NewDay are giving existing/referred JLFS customers a shorter repayment period than new customers. I'm not sure how you can conclude that's not a penalty for being loyal to the John Lewis brand since it's a new credit product either way.

I have just had an e-mail about my monthly John Lewis Rewards, which includes a link to how one earns on the new credit card.  Now, this is presumably entirely my own fault for not studying the T&Cs, but according to that link it seems that on the new card one will only earn reward points on Waitrose and John Lewis purchases, rather than on any purchase as before.  https://www.johnlewisfinance.com/content/dam/jlf/pscd/pdfs/card-points/John-Lewis-Partnership-Card-Earning-Points.pdf makes no mention of earning points on the majority of my spend, as I have done for years.  I am pretty annoyed, because I have made some large purchases this month, and was expecting 1% back on them.  But I don't want to change the card now, because of the effect it will have on my credit file - they don't like a lot of swapping cards around.  Catch-22.

At the top it says "For all other eligible purchases, you’ll earn points at the lesser rate of 1 point for every £4 spent."
My account already includes points on purchases outside of the JLP.

It does, but its definition of "eligible purchases" seems to be confined to the JLP.  But if your account shows points on other purchases, that gives me hope!
  • Yes I have a statement already whereas with old card I wouldn’t have had to pay till November so wish I’d put it on there but was enticed by triple points offer

plus it’s very hard to set up a payment from the bank like I used to do. Bank couldn’t find details

    does anyone have this information

The link to set up a Direct Debit is on the Account page.  Alternatively, for ad hoc payments, you can pay by Switch, also via a link on that page.  You don't push the payment from the bank account, you pull it from the credit card account, just as one did with the old card.

I don’t think it does. The summary states that the terms for earnings rewards on the new card remain the same as for the old card. And, as a previous poster has said, the T&C detail says  “ ii)1 Point for every £4 spent on your Partnership Card at all other retailers and at John Lewis and Waitrose shop concessions, including but not limited to Ham Holy Burger, Rossopomodoro, Hotel Chocolat, Joe & the Juice…..”  ie the detailed list just includes JLP related companies where you don’t get the higher rewards that you get at main JL stores and Waitrose.

With my current card it is set up with the bank as one of my nominated payees and I make a payment from my bank each month as does my spouse

i rang them and found out the correct information to set up the payments

  • Having had the JL Card since it was introduced (husband is account holder and I have an additional card and do 90% of the spending) we found the application process for the new card very easy and were given the same £10k credit limit. Confirmation of acceptance for him and second card for me - no problem.  Always pay off in full on spend over £3000 per month plus any “big” spends like holidays.

His card arrived. Nothing for me.  Logged onto the system “no additional cardholder”. Applied again - pin arrived for me 2 weeks ago but no card. Husband has been using his card but has to insert card and enter pin more often than contactless works (all well under the contactless limit). He can’t find the details to set New Day up as a payee from our bank  account. They say he has to use the app.  Getting annoying.

Having read reviews about problems galore we applied for an Amex card today (and accepted with an even higher limit) - calculated that we will earn over £400 per annum in cash back!  Once that arrives we will dump the JL card and just use our “back up” no frills Mastercard for anywhere not accepting Amex.
