And this was your record on the specific credit agency they told you to check?  Because different agencies can end up with different entries, and score those entries in different ways.
I believe they are required to notify you about any reference agencies thay use. I have some free accounts that all say the same about me. There is nothing untoward on any of them. I specifically checked the one they used.

That was the their main criteria obviously. Said they only did a soft search and gave me the name of the reference agency they used and said I should check my file.

It's not obvious at all, it's spurious conjecture.
I no longer care anyway. A JL card has far more cachet amongst some people than an ASDA card.
Thank you for your lecture on the ins and outs of lenders and the relative criteria that they use to assess applications. I am sure some peolpe here will find it useful.

It's not a lecture, it's a challenge to a questionable submission you've provided to a discussion board. I'm glad you accept you are mistaken and there was actually other differences beside the single one you suggested.

It was not a questionable submission for my circumstances. I have never been refused a card before whilst in employment. Nobody can say for sure though why I was turned down. You have listed many possibilities. All they knew about me was my income and whatever a soft credit check provides.

It was a questionable submission - the inference was that nothing other than salary had changed, when clearly lots of other stuff has. Why let the facts get in the way of a good moan though?

Not arguing the toss on this any more, I've made my point.
  • I'm not sure if this has been posted before so apologies if I am duplicating.

I've had no problems applying, have been given a higher limit and the card has worked perfectly.  However it looks like a glitch with DVLA.  I have tried to pay my car tax using the DVLA online service and failed....."Invalid card type for card number entered".  Double checked everything and my end is correct and I chose the correct Mastercard.

Pretty sure the DVLA have only accepted debit cards since the ban on surcharging came in. Curve might work as a workaround, I don't know how NewDay treat them though.

I have just received my vehicle tax reminder.
It says "There is no fee for paying with any debit card, pre-paid card or personal credit card. An additional fee of £2.50 is applicable to all other types of card."
Looks like they don't recognise the card yet.

I paid my car tax in July using the JLFS Partnership card.

    I stand corrected!
  • It's now open to all applicants - not just those who have signed up for emails or previous cardholders.

I ran the eligibility check - and it came out with a lower limit than I'd like, and an APR of 28% instead of the typical - so didn't go ahead with an application.
