AlwynP said:When I got my letter I went to the website I was too early; now I get a notice saying Wait that continues ad infinitude. What’s going on?
It was a doddle and, rather to my surprise, I was given an increased credit limit. I completed a DDI and was even able to add the new card to Apple Pay.0 -
Lucky you AlwynP - although you do say 'finally got through'. I've been trying to open a new account (after receiving an invitation letter) and keep being told there are technical issues and to try later. I'm running out of patience and will give it one more try before finding a new card provider. Are companies really trying to get rid of customers, if so John Lewis is being very successful.0

My experience so far is, I received email with code inviting me to apply for new card, applied online using code provided, was given a limit of £10,000 which was slightly higher then my previous JL limit, proceeded with application and was accepted straight away, have received pin number and just waiting on card now, application took no more then 5 minutes online, downloaded app and set up SO date etc.
Like a lot of others on here I always paid balance off at at end of month, but never went any where near my total limit.0 -
I won't bother with the new JL Card. I am suspicious about JL's motives and cannot see great advantages over other cards. If it seems OK in a year or two and l still shop at JL as much l may apply then!0

I didn't realise JLFS used "card readers". HSBC (+FD and M&S) issue 2FA fobs which don't interact with cards at all.
Perhaps the letter-writer and the columnist are confused, I note in the response the device is described as "PINsentry" which is a trademark of Barclays.0 -
They did indeed issue card readers, although not to everybody; my husband was sent one, although I was not.

Does texting to landline work for all telephony providers? I know BT used to provide the service. And my parents have been with Virgin for ages and in the past I have sent texts to their landline which worked. But I think within the last month I tried a text to their landline and it did not work. I do not know if BT still provide the text service to landlines.

Same as many others here and on Trustpilot: held a JL Partnership Card for over a decade with large credit limit, spent a lot on it and paid off automatically monthly. Credit record is spotless. Haven't moved (very standard) address for years. Above average earnings. Invited to transfer from HSBC to NewDay; enter the code and application declined. No reason given. Cannot try again.
Call them up and pleasant chap on the phone says that he can't tell me why I was declined - or what their scoring criteria are. Says that NewDay won't tell anyone generally. Says that I can apply as a general new customer later, but the rule set and process will be the same (so presumably will fail again). And to be honest, my nose is put of joint now, so why would I bother?
Presumably John Lewis themselves will realise this IT system and/or credit scoring criteria blunder when they see how few of their highest spending customers don't transfer. The scoring policy is likely set by NewDay (the bear the credit risk) but John Lewis are the ones who will lose as a lot of very annoyed loyal customers will take other cards and due to not receiving JLP vouchers will be more likely to buy elsewhere. Very short sighted by a company already in major trouble.2 -
