Strictly speaking, Tracker does not require a smart meter, but you agree to the following on sign-up:

When asking to switch to Tracker a few days ago they told me they are rolling smart meters out in the summer for customers on the tariff without one.

I'm not sure why people keep perpetuating the myth that Octopus aren't accepting new customers. They have never stopped, they just require a phone call. I'd also suggest that Go is currently the cheapest fix out there, as long as you have an EV.

    :D
My teenage kids are like that, if they can achieve something by clicking a few buttons on-line they're all over it, but if it involves interacting with a real human being (face-to-face, by telephone or even webchat) it's all too much trouble.

Until a few weeks ago you were correct. Than people started to reported they needed to try again to get a different agent who would allow them to join. Latest were users reporting that after trying repeatedly they finally gave up.

Do you have new information that Octopus is again accepting people as long as they just call them?

@pochase @Petriix I wonder if people are flaking the wrong number. I went through the Octopus switch to us pages and you finally get to a different number to the general customer service number.

    The question is:
Are Octopus the only energy company left with a decent fix?
    Here's a left-field one for you ...
Even further left-field is Green Energy's "Tide" tariff. Another 15-month fix, Tide is a three/four-rate time-of-use tariff that requires a smart meter. If you can load shift to avoid the evening peak it could work out cheaper than Octopus Agile.
Could be particularly appealing to smart metered E7 customers, or people with home storage batteries. But you really want to avoid that 70p/kWh evening slot if you can!

Did you get onto SVT or one of their tariffs like Agile, Tracker or Go? Maybe that makes a difference?
