I'm in Hampshire and most of the council-carpark chargers near me seem to be operated for them by Mer. I've not yet encountered a faulty one. There's a council rep who replies to fault reports on ZapMap, so they're keeping an eye on something!

What sort of budget is @ddi considering?  Is the desire for brand new or will used be acceptable?
I think used as the new EVs seem quite pricey. I’m thinking we should replace the Alhambra initially albeit doesn’t need to be quite as large but not too much smaller either. Then maybe look to replace the fiesta. I haven’t looked yet but I want my daughter to learn in a manual so think it’s worth holding onto the fiesta for her to learn in next year.

One of the key elements that make a vehicle comfortable for 5 is the absence of a transmission tunnel. Many EVs still have those as they share the platform with ICE & hybrid variants.
    Transmission tunnel????

I’ve no clue what a transmission tunnel is. But what makes a car uncomfortable for five idle is the design of the middle seat. This photo of the Skoda Enyaq is a prime example & why I’m still driving my 12 year old diesel Alhambra (annoyingly)

I guess all your cars have been Fwd with no Awd option? The transmission tunnel is where the propshaft that delivers power to the rear wheels resides & it's the reason why the rear floor isn't flat meaning the middle passenger has to sit with one leg either side of it.

TBH it is in pretty much every FWD car too - think it adds strength and may make space for the exhaust/cat?
    I think....

I think the last time I had a Fwd car was in 1988... an Escort RS Turbo. :* Everything since has had a propshaft & an Exhaust until the Tesla arrived in 2021.

I can't recall now the mileage profile you have, but if it suits the mileage profile, the Citroen C4 electric could be a consideration worthwhile of further investigation

My first car was a VW Beetle, which was rear engine and RWD. It didn't need a transmission tunnel for a propshaft or exhaust, but there was still had a hump down the middle of the car for the gear-change linkage and to provide some extra strength to the chassis.
