There is a suggestion here that used EV prices will increase

Pricing stops buyers from choosing EVs over ICE equivalents

Andy Shields, global business unit director of Indicata, said: “This effect appears to have some relationship to the manufacturer’s reputation for EVs. If it is good, they stabilise slightly above the ICE equivalent, if they have less of a track record, it stabilises slightly below.

“However, the key point seems to be that once prices of EV and ICE versions of a model are roughly the same, buyers start to support the electric version in sufficient numbers that the curve flattens out.

“Of course, whether this is a long term effect remains to be seen but it appears to be holding true at this moment in time.”

While it is clear that EV prices are stabilising, following on from price falls of 2023, some suggest there will be a strong increase due to various factors.

Mark Davis, key account manager of epyx, concluded: “Probably the most interesting development of the last year or so has been something that we are calling multi-channel remarketing, where major fleets are increasingly looking to sell the same vehicle simultaneously through a number of channels, both trade and retail, with prices adjusted accordingly.

“It offers the best chance of maximising values following recent market readjustments.”

I have been to many car auctions in my time just out of interest but never bought

BCA Measham I believe was one of the largest in Europe

I even went there before it was BCA

What looks like an identical car can fetch different prices depending on my factors

Colour, picky bidders, not enough bidders, private bidders, time of day.

I have seen cars go through and not reach the reserve then go through later and sell.

I wouldn't put my faith in car auction prices, dealers will add as much as they think they can sell it for.

I don't matter EV or ICE

With a tinge of sadness, my Focus, which I gave to my Nephew, has gone to the scrapyard in the sky.
He is replacing it with a 2020 Kona EV, £15k, so a new joiner to the EV club.  That is a private buyer and no work schemes etc.
So my Brother, who already had the i3, liked my Nephew's Kona EV so much he has swapped his Disco for the same.  A fairly rapid switch for them from two-ICE to two-EV couple.

Tesla has today released its Q1 2024 delivery (sales) figures, falling 9% year on year - the first fall since COVID.

Two things stand out for me:

Despite well reported production difficulties Tesla, deliveries were 47,000 units less than production.

How did the analysts get their estimates so wrong?

Tesla (TSLA) releases Q1 2024 deliveries: disastrous results

    Electrek’s Take

This is next-level bad. Even the most pessimistic analysts didn’t come close to predicting this level of deliveries.

All these excuses that Tesla is listing are good excuses, but they are good for the lower production levels. They don’t explain the ~50,000-vehicle discrepancy between production and deliveries. That’s a demand problem. As clear as it gets.

I think this should be a wake-up call. This is Tesla going back about two years in terms of demand.

It's been pretty clear for a while that Tesla need a model 2 in order to continue growing. Model 3 & Y must be close to market saturation & the number of new markets is running out fast. Model S, X & the Cybertruck are all niche vehicles & unlikely to help the overall volume very much.

I wonder where the 50,000 missing vehicles are? If they're mainly surplus stock then there could be some tasty discounting in a few weeks.

Used EV prices tumble amid flood of cheap Chinese rivals

The value of second-hand electric cars has tumbled since the start of the year as Chinese manufacturers flood Britain with cheap new models.

The average price of the 20 most popular used electric and hybrid vehicles fell 12pc in the three months to March compared with a year ago, according to research by the AA.

Prices for the most popular second-hand combustion engine models also fell 9pc year-on-year in the first quarter as easing chip shortages boosted availability.

More great news for the growth of EV. Keep it coming!

(I can't say that I've seen a flood of Chinese EVs on the roads near me, however - the EVs I see are from the traditional manufacturers)

In China, it is priced from the equivalent of £8000, a price at which BYD is understood to make the car profitably and still offer a range close to 200 miles.

Interesting - can't see it being anywhere near the £8K equivalent it sells for in China though.
