I have an earth rod for my EPS system.
How was your EPS setup, did your electrician / installer design it and say its OK then?
Is your system working again now, I'm glad it's sorted if that's the case!

I do have an earth rod next to oil tank and the oil feed pipe is earthed to it, will need to check with the installer if this will work or will need a new/alternate way of earthing.
How have others who have EPS/UPS or backup systems configured the earthing?
But consult your electrician, not some random bod on t'internet.

@Mikeyboy01443 Unfortunately I was working when the last bit of the installation was done and did not check. I suspect the installer falsely believed the boiler was supplied from the EPS circuit (due to it being in the garage) which along with the oil tank is earthed via an Earth rod.
@QrizB I'll get the installer to comeback and have a look at the contactor and wire it to the earth rod or have a new one put installed.“Don't raise your voice, improve your argument." - Desmond Tutu

The engineer came out today. The main board of AC coupled inverter was fried, changed over very quickly. At the same time disconnected the EPS. As EPS circuits need a separate way to earth in a TN-C-S system when in island mode. Makes sense, but was not sure if this was the cause of the failure.

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't have a supplementary earth rod in addition to the pme supply. It's just extra protection in the unlikely event that there's a multiple earth failure. If there's a reason for isolating the pme during a EPS event I'd be interested to know what it is.4kWp (black/black) - Sofar Inverter - SSE(141°) - 30° pitch - North LincsInstalled June 2013 - PVGIS = 3400Sofar ME3000SP Inverter & 5 x Pylontech US2000B Plus & 3 x US2000C Batteries - 19.2kWh2 -
Glad to learn it's been sorted. Fingers crossed it stays that way. It would certainly be interesting to learn what may have caused the PC to fry. Presumably you've not been billed for the engineer turning out!

What i dont get is you said you had tested the EPS before?
Was it setup so that it was a ticking time bomb and would have fried eventually?
I tested my EPS aftet install but it wasn't long, couple of minutes maybe... its making me wonder if i should test it out 🤔0 -
The contactor may just bond the spiked earth to the pme earth without introducing a switch to the pme earth?4kWp (black/black) - Sofar Inverter - SSE(141°) - 30° pitch - North LincsInstalled June 2013 - PVGIS = 3400Sofar ME3000SP Inverter & 5 x Pylontech US2000B Plus & 3 x US2000C Batteries - 19.2kWh1
