Parking stories in the News/media

Umkomaas said:Kevin McGuire (of the Daily Mirror) rather laughed it off when commenting on the Sky News Press Review last night, suggesting it wasn't such a big issue on the basis that as there were around 30 million motorists in the UK, that on average you could only expect a parking ticket about once every 3 years. I didn't check his maths; maybe should check his head first! Seemed to be blissfully unaware of the misery this is causing up and down the country.3
-
His maths is wrong. You can expect a private PCN every hundredth time you park.
That's a risk of two a year for most people.
Double that risk for people unlucky enough to have a PPC infesting their home car park.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

The Daily Mail link I posted above was of course their online news
Just been in a store who sell papers and that story filled the front page of the DM.
Despite their faults, the DM goes to millions and will fall on the desk of Mr Gove. No doubt to the PM Rishi as well. And for those who don't know, it was Rishi Sunak who approved the new code of practice in the House of commons when he was The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government
https://www.parallelparliament.co.uk/mp/rishi-sunak/debate/2018-11-23/commons/commons-chamber/parking-code-of-practice-bill
Rishi plainly said ..... "I hope hon. Members will remain convinced of our commitment to bringing this legislation into force as soon as practicably possible" .... THAT WAS 4 YEARS AGO ?
And at the time the BPA said ... "The BPA looks forward to pushing for a positive outcome for all.”
THAT WAS BEFORE GREED TOOK OVER5 -
"Just been in a store who sell papers and that story filled the front page of the DM."
Saw this at a garage and had seen the Mail Online this morning.
In the Mail Online there were some very annoying comments from smug posters who have never received a PCN. Typical comment "if you follow the rules you will never receive a ticket".
Lots of comments about the DVLA giving out information to the PPC's.
There were the usual comments about ignoring the letters and they will go away.
Many posters not really understanding the difference between tickets for parking on double yellow lines etc., council car parks and PPC's. Good publicity though for the MP's and Ministers to get their finger out.

@MSE_JC could we please ask a favour?
IF MSE picks up this news story in the coming days, pleeeeease could the MSE journalists mention the long awaited DLUHC Public Consultation (likely to be published in the New Year, I guess):
https://news.sky.com/story/amp/private-parking-firms-issuing-30-000-fines-each-day-as-number-jumps-50-in-a-year-12754255
Even if MSE just adds a 'heads up' that the forumites on the parking board want all MSE motorists to be ready respond robustly to the upcoming Public Consultation and if people want to be alerted to the Consultation, they should set profile email alerts and bookmark the following thread where we will be posting when it opens:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6333989/mse-parking-ticket-appeals-guide-feedback/p1
@MSE_James kindly said this in July:
Just hoping for a mention now to put people on notice! Please...just to say:MSE_James said:Hi @Coupon-mad just confirming we've seen the message above and will be on the alert for the start of the consultation, and will make sure our news colleagues are aware of it when it happens as well.
(a) that the Code of Practice being withdrawn is ONLY temporary (forced by Judicial Reviews by parking firms) and the Government is working on the promised draft Impact Assessment and a final Public Consultation;
(b) motorists who take issue with the conduct of this rogue industry should be ready to respond about the greed of the private parking operators and the Debt Recovery firms and the aggressive 'legals' who churn cases to court and exaggerate them to £170
(c) if anyone has a private parking charge or are being threatened with court send them to this forum where we have a 100% winning first appeal that works for MANY operators and a 99% (reported outcomes since 2016) win rate defending court claims snd setting aside CCJs from PPCs. For help, read the NEWBIES FAQS first:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4816822/newbies-private-parking-ticket-old-or-new-read-these-faqs-first-thankyou
Cheers. Nearly there. The code and a robust regulatory regime is coming.

Armtrac up to their usual 'fluttering ticket' tricks:

The victim complained to Swanpool landowners who didn't want to get involved.
She said:
"I won't pay the fee until this is resolved in court. I would rather do community service than pay these companies. I bought a valid ticket and displayed it."It's so sad that a local car park cannot work with a community member to resolve this issue. Instead my time will be potentially taken away from my work - supporting the community with their health - to go to court.
"I hope that we can make others aware of the potential challenges when parking here and unfortunately how it has overshadowed the joy of relaxation after work at my local beach."

Civil Enforcement making shedloads of money from genuine patrons of a pub, due to their crappy signs that fail to make it clear that there's suddenly a new system, a hidden keypad inside the premises to exempt your car:
https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/parking-fine-leaves-trumpeter-sour-25585448.amp
This will wreck the pub's client base within a year, in our experience.
Latest victim, Adrian said:
"We entertain their customers and have built up a very good following over the years. All of the musicians play for no payment.
I'd not been at the Park Inn for a couple of years, and didn't know the new need to register my car with them."

On one hand there is a JR and on the other hand there are these idiots who are begging to tell everyone including government they are not fit for purpose.
It is a shame that the lady said she would rather do community service ?
That penalty belongs to to parking scammers

https://www.legalcheek.com/2022/11/top-commercial-barrister-triumphs-in-parking-fine-row/amp/And it appears Levey has gained a few fans in the process. “I enjoyed this to no end,” wrote one lawyerresponding to the Twitter thread. Barrister ‘CrimeGirl’ put the success down to “fantastic lawyering” while fellow lawyer and LBC radio presenter Daniel Barnett described the legal response as “incredible“Jeez, you'd think he'd just delivered some legal miracle. It's what we do here every day, not a legal qualification between us (@bargepole, @Johnersh apart)! 😄Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
