Three PAYG price increase July 2022

  • That is exactly why I thought that I hadn’t received my refund.  I had 4 payments back to my debit card accounts and thought that Three were holding onto £10.  This went on for several weeks and umpteen customer service chats.  In the end I got the nicest, most helpful Indian lady on the phone chat who looked into everything and promised me a call back with an update when she received it from the back office team.  I thought “yea right” I didn’t think she would but the lovely lady phoned me back twice and by the time she had worked out what had happened, I had received my latest credit card bill and there was the refund, it went back to my credit card on the same day that my other refunds went back to my debit card.  I don’t often check my credit card statements on line, I just wait for my monthly paper statement to come then check things on there.  I apologised and thanked her for keeping in contact with me to the end.  That was the problem, each time you spoke to a c/s agent on chat or by phone, it was someone different and they had to read all the notes etc.  One point of contact is by far the best method of sorting out something like this.

So, if all the people who are still awaiting a refund could check their credit card statements, they may just find that their refund went to that card.  A lesson learned, use the same card for every top up.
  • I am still waiting for the 3 mobile refund, one or two chats and nothing constructive, felt like they were just saying anything... why did they offer a refund if they weren't prepared to do it?

Out of interest, given the very recently announced increase in ASDA PAYG will anyone be moving again?
  • Not me!  I just cannot be bothered to move again, if one company puts up their rates then for sure the others won’t be far behind.  I also have RWG in my phone as a second sim and that mostly gives me as many free minutes and texts as I will ever use in a month and I can keep within the data allowance by using the home wi fi for most occasions.  Asda will be many main sim for incoming calls as it has my original number and I receive rather than make calls on there.  For now that is ok for me.  If prices jump a lot then I shall have to seriously consider the cheapest monthly contract but that seems a waste of £5 a month or £60 a year for my usage.

I'm doing the same thing, main number on Asda and second number on RWG on dual SIM phone. If I take a holiday abroad or am going to unusually need a lot of data I'll just buy a bundle to cover.

  • Three finally closed my complaint today after stating the reason I haven't received my refund is due to my last top up being before January 2020.
I told them I will now take my complaint to the Ombudsman and they are sending me the info they think I need for that.
I intend to use Resolver, having used them in the past.
I am fighting on to the bitter end!

I'm halfway through a ten day wait for my refund, plus a small goodwill gesture for my trouble, having escalated it to their "Executive office". Not holding my breath. I've had 8, 7 and multiple 3 day promises that came to nothing, but this one does sound more likely.
They did eventually tell me that only credit purchased during 2020 or later was eligible for a refund, and some of mine was before that. Shame their customer service staff didn't appear to know that detail. I had "chatted" with over 12 different people by the time it was montioned!

Got my refund yesterday, plus a little goodwill gesture :)
Took an awful lot of perseverance, and it was more because I had the time and stubbornness to continue chasing it. Spent the best part of 5 hours in "chats" plus an email exchange with the Executive Office, but can put my experience with Three well behind me now.
Moved to Asda, who have now announced their rate is going up from 4p to 15p/minute next month! Hardly ever use my phone to make calls, and can't really be bothered to move my number again, even if they are offering a refund of your credit (all of £5) if you leave because of the increase!

  • After Three closed my long running complaint, I then took my complaint to the Ombudsman, initially online. They then phoned me and said that Three would probably offer me a resolution and that is what happened.
I was offered a full refund of my last top-up (which was more than my remaining credit) plus a £15 goodwill payment.
The money has now been paid into my account. :)
As mentioned previously, it was more about the principle than the money in the end, but it's always nice to take on and beat a big company like Three.

For those of us that escaped from Three to Asda, I see that Three and Vodafone (used by Asda) are in merger talks...
