If your Gmail account got hacked because someone used a backdoor exploit that hadn't been fixed in WLM2012, who would you blame?derrick said:wongataa said:

They do. You can carry on using WLM, it's just that you won't have 2FA protection. TBH, you'll probably be fine, but Google aren't going to support an app that doesn't have the latest security features and as long as you are aware of that then you can make your choice accordingly.derrick said:wongataa said:

Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0 -
It stopped because of GoogleJ_B said:It works today, but earlier in the week, it didn't workIf it stops next week, then what?If your 26 year old car behaved like that, would you consider changing it?It didn't stop working, Google decided to not allow password access but wanted 2 step verification, which I could not get to work. Anything can stop working, even new products, in this case the app is working, just that Google decided to stop working with it.

Thanks for the input, but for those that go on about not using WLM 2012, I am a creature of habit and don't change things for the sake of change, I am running a 26 year old car, it works and until it stops I will just run it into the ground.
Yes but your 26 year old car will never see any significant upgrades to improve its usablity/security. Your email will, but your email program won't support them. Your hand will be forced at some point to move email programs.Anyway as things stand the fuel is probably worth more than your car

Neither will WLM 2012 but it is still working.Neil_Jones said:derrick said:Thanks for the input, but for those that go on about not using WLM 2012, I am a creature of habit and don't change things for the sake of change, I am running a 26 year old car, it works and until it stops I will just run it into the ground.

It is Google causing the problem.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I switched from LiveMail to eM Client, which has all the facilities of LIveMail, when Gmail ceased supporting LiveMail. The installation process moves over the LiveMail account, mail server details, contacts etc plus all old emails and the folder structure. So no reconfiguration required.0

For information you cannot continue using WLM if you have a gmail email address. The Gmail servers wont accept a login request from WLM.tempus_fugit said:

WLM is very insecure now and has lots of known exploits to leak your emails etc which can be used for resetting passwords on all sorts of accounts perhaps including your banking.derrick said:wongataa said:

Sometimes the tech companies have to take things out of the hands of the users for their own sake. There comes a point where some people shouldn't be allowed to decide for themselves.
Move off of WLM to something that is supported and secure before you get compromised (if you haven't been already).0 -
I used Thunderbird which I liked because I could keep various email accounts under one roof and save in various folders. However recently we moved from Virgin Media so I lost the Virgin email address and had to open a gmail one and have been unable to get the gmail account accepted in Thunderbird.
I queried it on here and kept getting the 2FA password to use but it wouldn't accept it. Eventually I had to give up and just use the gmail account direct but I dislike the layout and the options for folders and would like to go back to Thunderbird if ever possible. (Like the OP I originally had Windows Live Mail which I also liked)0
