shelly and jan....just accept that 99.9% of people responding to this thread are against the obvious scam that was aimed at robbing someone who was too innocent/trustworthy.....if there is such a thing!

All you two are doing now is twisting words and posts from other people to try and justify your comments.

shelly, who actually cares that if you were selling such an item then you'd put your hypothetical advert for an empty box IN BIG RED LETTERS??????? It's a ridiculous statement to make.......

1 - I don't think for one second that you or jan would ever even think about trying to rip people off,

    Thank you

2 - We're talking about what actualy happened to a buyer on eBay...not some hypothetical situation that wouldn't happen....so why justify yourself by telling us how you'd do something you wouldn't actually do in the first place??

All that's been proved on this thread is that 99.9% of posters DO CARE about the scammed person, and that it was a deliberate attempt to rob an innocent eBayer....... you and jan can be happy in your little world of saying it's the buyer's own fault...just accept the vast majority disagree with you....end of.[/quote]

I have the greatest of sympathy with the buyer( in my own little world  ). I'm sure he/she did think that they were buying an actual consol, the seller has obviously put into place tricks to make them think this if they were skimming the page.
All I am saying is that if people actually took the time to read posts before bidding then there would be a lot less people for these sellers to try it on
    with.
I'm in no way advocating the practise of this seller, I just don't believe that anyone who actually read the listing would have bid on it.

I do accept that everyone apart from Jan and I think the auction was a scam. In "my little world" I know that we all have differing views and opinions and I respect that. Its a shame some posters on this thread can't do the same.

  • I think I'm also in the minority here in that while I can see that the listing is dubious I don't see that it is a scam, the listing clearly says both in the title and in the main text what people are bidding for. I do not agree with people being ripped off, but in this particular auction you get what is says on the tin. There is no attempt to hide the fact you are bidding on a box, yes it could be clearer but it is still there for people to see.

So what is your take on the receipt?

Is it a receipt for an empty box?

Has anyone actually emailed the buyer or seller to ask if it is just a box without the console? Would be interesting to see the response!

Looks like the buyer is a new user and I doubt he will be paying.

It wouldn't surpise me if there was a bidding war for the box between non paying bidders.

Their fees are going to be extortionate.

But if so wouldn't it have gone to £487985638? :)

I think you have to register a credit card if bidding goes over a certain amount. I hope the seller does not get paid and forgets to get his fees back from ebay. That will teach him to try and ruin someone's Christmas.

Scam - Definition of "A ploy by a shyster to raise money "

If this isn't a scam...what is? Deceptively phrased to deceive..and why show a picture of and also mention the receipt if he/she had no intention of sending it?
....and you yourself also state in an earlier post on this thread that what the seller is doing is wrong.......

The auction was set up to lure an innocent / naive buyer in.......I'd agree it probably wouldn't deceive 90% of this forum's readers but only a small %age of the public use such forums...and the seller was looking to part an innocent from their cash...of that there is no doubt.

if i had known then what i know now
  • Why oh why don't people describe auctions properly?

    is a more fitting question.

True, although in this instance it did clearly state "box" and showed a picture of the box. Auction stated receipt pictured was not included.
