let's hope no pensioners try to buy one for their grandkids eh? Maybe some people TRUST other people not to rip them off or to try to deceive them. I know which sort of person I'd rather meet, I know which sort of person I'd rather support.

Whichever way you look at it, the seller has not mislead anyone, he/she has quite clearly stated that it is only a box, no-where has he/she said a consol will be included, granted he/she has banked on people skimming the listing and probably thinking that it is for a consol, but surely any buyer of any age who is going to be spending that amount of money on something would take the time to read the listing properly and ask questions.

The seller is at fault for trying it on but the blame lies with the stupidity of the buyer for bidding on the item.

I'm sure anyone reading this thread who has fallen victim of such an attack quoted in your previous post will thank you for your good use of the english language! ( Not!! )

The seller has mislead people. The bogus photo of a receipt and the fact they have not stated clearly that the auction is only for the box and not the console.
  • Giving provenance to an item (even an empty box) showing a receipt, to my eyes is deception as proved by the high price the buyer has paid. Why even show the receipt in the first place?
If people reading this thread think its a great way to make money, and is the path they want to take in life. Then they better watch their backs.
Maybe the people that try to justify this scam are tempted themselves

The title of the Auction says "
    ltCurve.gif

    Pink Nintendo DS lite box

    "
The body of the auction says: "You are bidding on a Pink Nintendo DS lite box."

It's difficult to say that he/she has not clearly stated what was for sale.

I do however agree he/she is trying it on and that it is wrong, however it is in no way like the 419 scams or girls being attacked, there is very little deception within the listing as all the information is there, nothing is hidden.

Why is there an assumption the pensioners are not able to buy on-line without being ripped off.

There is no doubt they were trying it on. When you sell just a box you can make it a lot clearer that it is just a box, the words 'box only' should be present. Some sellers sell items boxed and would write 'Nintendo DS boxed' or 'Nintendo DS with box'.

I'd be very surprised if the seller was genuinely trying to appear to be selling just the box for a start price of £78 including P+P.

The people in this thread who are claiming the seller could not make it any clearer are not kidding anyone. There will be quite a few people who will always fall for these kinds of scam, and for once I am glad that auction wreckers exist and continue to ruin these pathetic auctions, sometimes the auction wreckers do a far better job at policing ebay than ebay.

I wonder how long it will bw before there is a thread on here or ebays own forum saying "help I bought a wii/nintendo Ds box!"......

These were very dodgy ( I'll refrain from saying scam) auctions as seller is hoping to catch someone who is desperately searching for these hard to find items and that they bid quickly before reading the auction properly in their excitement!

I DO hope auction wreckers were at work
    :j I love bargains:j
    I love MSE
  • I didn't say he/she wasn't trying it on I'm sure they were, however I still maintain it was fairly clear what was up for grabs.

It seems odd however that people are now on this board advocating support for "auction wreckers" as it is strictly against Ebay's policies, two wrongs don't make a right.
