I agree that the seller tells no lies but with a start price of £70 it was not straightforward.

I'm sure anyone reading this thread who has fallen victim of such an attack quoted in your previous post will thank you for your good use of the english language! ( Not!! )
Just as I am sure that those who have fallen victim to an ebay con artist or scammer will really appreciate you calling them “fools”, “bl:mad::mad: dy idiots” and saying that “the blame lies with the stupidity of the buyer”.

I have sympathy and understanding for anyone who is a victim of a crime or a con even if it is through their own foolishness and naivety.

We can’t all be as clever and smart as you.

Some people may be too naïve and trusting for their own good but the only bad guys are the scammers and the blame for the scams rests entirely in the hands of those scammers.

These type of listings where a seller deliberately misleads the buyer are now in Ebays rules and the buyer will be backed by Ebays policies. :T

I dont think the buyer would be at fault to feel they are buying a console in that box, especially when the starting bid was £70! I have been listing on ebay a long time and maintain 100% feedback as I list items honestly it is the sellers responsibilty to list items exactly as they are and if they care about their feedback they will benefit more by doing so.

A box would be worthy of a 1p starting bid with postage of less than £1. This immediately would make bidders wonder why its so cheap and they would take more notice of the wording.

Deliberate scam from a nasty ebayer trying to rip of anybody they can at christmas while their kid or even they are happily playing their new DS console from out of that box! I dont know how anybody can defend this seller the buyer is the victim and deserves pity.

It does look like a 0 feedback bidder may of ruined the auction to protect the innocent but it could of also been one of their mates shill bidding hoping to get more out of the auction!

Don't assume that empty boxes are worthless and that anyone selling an empty box is a con-merchant. I have happily paid very good money for empty boxes in the past - if you have the contents but no box, you will pay over the odds to get a box so that you can sell the full item at a premium price. I recently had an item that would have sold for about £25. I paid £50 for a box, and sold the whole lot for £150.

Empty boxes do have a value and I'm sure they had a very good reason to pay that amount. I did find that auction from another MSE thread and thought it made a good example for this debate.

Giving provenance to an item (even an empty box) showing a receipt, to my eyes is deception as proved by the high price the buyer has paid. Why even show the receipt in the first place?
I agree with you on this.

If people reading this thread think its a great way to make money, and is the path they want to take in life. Then they better watch their backs.

No, I don't think this is a great way to make money.

Maybe the people that try to justify this scam are tempted themselfs.

    Not at all.

Maybe the people that try to justify this scam are tempted themselves

Not at all but if I was to sell an empty box I would state in big red letters that it was for an empty box with no contents. Even then I'm sure someone would complain when they receive it that it was empty.

  • shelly and jan....just accept that 99.9% of people responding to this thread are against the obvious scam that was aimed at robbing someone who was too innocent/trustworthy.....if there is such a thing!

All you two are doing now is twisting words and posts from other people to try and justify your comments.

shelly, who actually cares that if you were selling such an item then you'd put your hypothetical advert for an empty box IN BIG RED LETTERS??????? It's a ridiculous statement to make.......

1 - I don't think for one second that you or jan would ever even think about trying to rip people off,

2 - We're talking about what actualy happened to a buyer on eBay...not some hypothetical situation that wouldn't happen....so why justify yourself by telling us how you'd do something you wouldn't actually do in the first place??

All that's been proved on this thread is that 99.9% of posters DO CARE about the scammed person, and that it was a deliberate attempt to rob an innocent eBayer....... you and jan can be happy in your little world of saying it's the buyer's own fault...just accept the vast majority disagree with you....end of.
if i had known then what i know now
