@Newman2 Your Economy 7 isn't worthwhile with only 22.6% used at night.  You'd be slightly better off switching to single rate, which shouldn't need a meter change.
    £1130.56 E7
    £1079.61 single rate
Your gas usage is less than half the average but your electricity is slightly more than average.  Are you wasting money by using an immersion heater or plug in electric heaters?  Make sure you use gas for all water and room heating.

    annual.consumption. day 2474 night 721 for elec. 5243 gas.
That works out as about £1550/yr, £130/month on the current capped variable tariff and asssuming you switch to single rate. If you can move more of your electricity to the night period it could work out slightly cheaper on E7 but either way, it's a lot more than the £76 you're used to.
(Yes you'll be able to reduce this once the Government payments start to appear.)

And that's basically what my original post was saying. No need for the dd to be set so high once the grants are included.

... but you haven't got them yet, and EDF don't know if you ever will, and so the DD should reflect your energy use on the tariff you're signed up to.

The other problem is that the £131 are required for the current cap. The new cap in October at the current prediction (60% gas, 45% electricity increase) would be 186.26, that is 54.50 more and complete wipes out the £400 the government will give you.

And that is at the single rate, your current E7 is more expensive.

Just calculated your cost at the old October SVT.

Have you come off a fixed rate? Even at the old unit rates and single tariff you would have been underpaying. Cheaper single rate would have needed already £90 per month.

If you really got a credit while paying £76 per month the usage you posted can't be right.

I think it's certain we will get it. There will be riots if we don't.

That is the first time you mention that you are coming off a fixed tariff. Even for the April cap a more than double the old direct debit is normal.

The £131 starting in August are spot on even with the £400, but only if you change from E7 to single rate.

    Two month £131 = £262
    10 month @ £185 - £1850
    -----------------------------------
    Total                          £2112
    Government grant    £ 400
adjustment summer £ 100 (adjustment for less use in summer)
    ===============================================
    Total                           £1612
    monthly direct debit   £134.33
