In my building, we buy gas cards off the landlord and put them into a metre, and I also pay £2 coins into an electric metre. I presume he pays the bills for the whole building and we pay to use it. How would I get the grant? I’m a bit worried because I could do with it
I'm afraid you won't get it based on the info. we have currently. Also there's a good chance your landlord is on a commercial contract so they won't get it either.

If I were in your position I might be tempted to write to my MP about this.

Am I missing something but isn't the grant paid into accounts going to leave a lot of accounts hundreds in credit thus making the providers a lot in interest. Take me for example. My bill came today, my DD will go up in August to 131 from 76 as they say that is what I will use projected for the coming year. Now, add on the  400 and I get warm home discount so will leave me 550 in credit going by their estimate but I wouldn't be able to get that back until next June.  Surely the recalc of my DD should take account of the 400 as well and be lower? Can I question this?

The credit is almost certainly going to be paid as 6 x £66 instalments, in order to avoid this build-up of large credits and the scenario you descri e. I suspect that also means the impact on recalculating  monthly direct debits isn't going to be that great.

Even so, EDF have calculated the dd based on projected usage for the coming year and not counted the £400 or the warm home discount. Now, even if they only counted the £400 guaranteed addition, that would mean a potential £30 reduction in DD with room to spare.  The thing I'm getting at is that people's DDs are increasing now and people need the 400 reduction to allow the dd to be reduced. The 400 credit is coming at the wrong time but that shouldn't stop EDF taking it into account when calculating the dd as they know it's going to be applied later.

Though also take into account that unit rates are increasing in October, too - which may well just swallow up the £400 credit.

Doubt it with my usage but I see your point.

Think I'll still challenge them on it because £55 increase on a £76 DD is a heck of a lot and beyond my reach on part time wages especially when I think it's been over inflated.

If you give us some details like what is your annual energy consumption and what is your region we might be able to tell you if it is inflated or not. Also are you in debt or credit after the last bill.
