Lazy holiday vibes received with thanks - it's gorgeous here today and finally back above 20 degrees!

    I hope Teacup mends soon.

Don't underestimate the value of childcare or even of being another responsible adult in the vicinity! Not only does it save a lot of money, but it also takes pressure off parents

Back from holidays and anticipating the joy of a hot water bottle.
Mixed feelings about the holiday, it is so far from what I’m used to. I’m re reading The Happiness Project at the moment and she coined the expression Accommodation Fun which I think sums it up. Normally I’d be on my own, free to do whatever caught my attention. But I didn’t even have one full day to myself on this trip. It did help me see my limits. Poor Little Bulldog ended up with another smack on the head after I was looking out for him on a too tired day.
    All in all enjoyed myself.

ETA I have received two payslips this month. The first was a pleasant surprise as I had worked more than I thought I had. The second was labelled amended payslip and came with gross and net pay mixed up. So that’s an email for when I have slept more than four hours.

Holidays are sometimes a good way of standing back far enough from ordinary life so that you can see it better - but perhaps get some sleep too. :) For your sake and everyone else's, there's that difficult thing about knowing your limits: when you are too tired, frazzled, sick, hungry or whatever, you will never do your best job, but I know that can be hard to see in oneself. That's not just a neurodiverse thing, millions of people keep on when they should have a break or change jobs or something, but difficulty in recognising ones own physical state (I've forgotten the proper term) makes it even more tricky.

Anyway, I'm glad you had your holiday and time with family, and also that you got extra pay!

Good news on the cleaning hours.

I agree that the childcare part is hard work and help is usually gratefully received.

Hope you get change to reset.

The joy of a hot water bottle is a very real joy  :)

The cleaning job sounds as if it suits you better than your last job.

The holiday sounded lovely in a family holiday sort of way...

  • Back from holidays with PMS and a runny nose. Thankfully the cold situation was brief- it was probably masde worse by lack of sleep. And perhaps wine consumption.
Fun for a family holiday is pretty much it on the nose DIA.
Alexithymia is perhaps the word you were thinking of Cherry?
The next few days will be a reset methinks SH.

  • On the bus home from work and one of the more stressful shifts I’ve been on. And abrasive team leader, nitpicking and delayed breaks just reaffirms my decision not to take any more shifts this month. I want to get ahead on some of my other plans, not least getting out of my sisters.
  • Ugh, I'm sorry you had such an unpleasant shift. Good that it's motivated you to get going on your other plans though!
Is there an HR type person you could speak to so you feel better about having this work option still available? Would be a shame to not want to go back if it's financially useful and I'm sure they would feel the loss of another pair of hands too
  • It definitely makes a difference when the shift hasn’t gone well. I was wired last night and couldn’t sleep. Although the heat may have played a part.
I didn’t drink enough water on shift yesterday and got dehydrated a little. I bought dioralyte though to rehydrate especially as it has been hot and out of routine.
I noticed a difference in how I worked yesterday. It threw me off having to be working with a particular person and notbeing able to direct my own time. But then I was able to notice when things were happening and put myself back in order. So that was a positive.
The plan for today is to rest up and do some planning. I need to investigate income generation for the rest of this month and next month. I’m looking at matched betting but I’m not keen to start until I understand what I’m doing a bit better.
Can’t stand surveys so thats out.
Looking at microtasking as well. Have so many tabs open on my phone browser the battery is depleting faster than usual. Although it is an iphone and batteries are not as good as my previous google pixel.
If and when I dig myself out of this hole I will celebrate with whatever pixel device I can.

That's a useful bundle of insights into what went wrong on shift, and often I find that if one person has difficulties with a particular member of staff, others do too. The late breaks might be due to emergencies or poor organisation, but if it affects health, it needs to be looked into.

    Dioralyte = good thinking.

Is mystery shopping still a thing? It used to be a way to earn extra cash.
