Sorry to hear about the lack of swimming , though the sawing will have been good exercise (and free).
Nice to have books bought for you!
You can do the work - and having the book to look forward to is a good idea. Maybe a good takeaway coffee on the way there, too?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Well done on the socialising (and for wanting to!) no matter how awkward/exhausting. And many congrats on the free shower and books. You've coped with much more trying things than doing work tomorrow, focus on how good it will feel to have paid for the bike hire. Is this something you could eventually own or something you're leasing from a work place to do work?3

You put it better than me, @PennysIntoPounds. It's a special kind of difficult to make yourself do something when in theory you could get away with not doing it, but you've done harder things and by this time tomorrow the deed will be done.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. The bike is a hire purchase type deal, 20 weeks with a weekly payment. If I don't get on with it I can give it back after that. If I want to keep it there are another 15 weekly payments.
I went out yesterday morning with the idea that I would dip a toe in the water. But it felt horrible to be out and I ended up going home before lunch. I had a rest and planned to go out again in the evening which was much better. I was out in the wind and rain so I got quite damp but managed to earn enough to pay for the bike payment. Thank you Storm Agnes.
The advantage of going out with Teacup is that she pays for everything. So I got my lunch freeAnd this morning I got breakfast and a £20 note pressed into my hand. I came over early as she is flying home today.

Glad you were able to meet your bill.
Glad that Teacup can help you out as you transition to independent living again after your time of helping her and the wider family out.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Riding a bike in all that wind is no mean feat! If you are an evening person, why not build your working time around that?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I am thinking Mary Poppins as you describe cycling in that wind!DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

The bike sounds good. I miss mine. There is something so freeing about cycling. Even with swimming I have to book, but, cycling. It feels like the last free/independent thing left. Enjoy! If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Ha I like the Mary Poppins imagery. The bike is actually an EAPC so it looks like a moped with pedals. Very little actual cycling involved.
I'm considering getting a bike at some point for fun cycling. I struggle with sitting on a regular bike as it feels like I'm falling over so I've been looking at recumbent bikes or tricycles.
Haven't posted for a while as brain has felt too full. Going to work has been overwhelming even though when I go out I mostly enjoy it. It's probably the only job I've ever had where I feel a sense of competency.3
