  • I really enjoy the river walk. You can walk down the path to the bridge then out over to the other side which was a country park. A girl I used to work with said it was about 3 miles. A bit beyond me at the moment but something to work towards.
If you go the other direction it is a marked trail which goes through the park and nature reserve out to the sea.
I'm sitting in Starbucks using their Internet to download as many YouTube videos as I can think of before I go home to the couch. I have bought my dinner (Chicken nuggets have been on the menu every day this week) and cough products. I may regret the cheapness of buying the sainsburys own brand cough medicine as it tastes disgusting.
Countrylife magazine has been bought and assuming I can make it up the hill home I will vegetate.
  • Made it home. Rather sensibly bought some sushi as a snack as I had been out so long without eating. Am very impressed with self.
It's amazing how much easier it is to look after myself when I am on my own. I can even see the value in those annoying tasks that have no inherent reward- have just removed 40 stoppers from a metal bed frame without stabbing myself or stopping midway through.
I do miss the Small One. I find myself randomly singing our songs around 5 o'clock (when he comes home from nursery).
It's getting to my favourite time of year now. The air is right, the temperature is right, the light...

Coughs are a pain - sometimes literally. I hope yours is gone soon.

No internet at the flat... but if you have a library ticket you might be able to download a few magazines for free when at the library? It saves money of course and you'd be supporting a valuable service. :) Or if the library is easy to get to (can't remember if you've said, sorry), go and cough in the there for a few hours with free wi-fi and heat, plus books and magazines galore and maybe some art books to inspire you?

Just saw I'd missed a couple of your posts, sorry. Sushi and Countrylife sound good.

I used to have a favourite canal-side walk and so long as it hadn't recently rained it was safe as well as beautiful. There's nothing similar where we live and I wish there were.

Are you watching Bluey or is Small One not a Bluey fan? I have no idea how I brought my family up pre-Bluey.

  • The cough alarm set itself for 6am bleurgh which was a shock to the system. I've been enjoying my prolonged start to the day, wrapped up warm and tidy as my Dad used to say. However it did mean I caught some of the sunrise and the warm morning light as I went through the park (at 7am oi vey) and I got to the shop for daily rations.
That was a very welcome cup of tea when I got back.
I did have to wash my pajama bottoms in my manual washer thing, I am officially old and so coughing has had a lowering effect on my bladder. Quite literally. They are now on a ladder drying in front of the fire.
I am enjoying a back to basics existence at the moment, it remains to be seen how long it will last. I have asked an electrician to come and quote for safe electrics though.
I do have access to free magazines via the library and kindle unlimited, I just don't really like reading on them screens. Also I did get quite a random independent publisher one called In Her Studio which is not widely available. I should also really be limiting screen time. Not that it will happen.
The library has been on my mind, Cherry, I have filled in two consultation surveys in the last week. My local one closed while I was away and the nearest is a Modern Library 1.3 miles away. I dislike it as it is bright white and noisy not to mention down a big hill.
Ha Small One does not watch Bluey as far as I am aware. His preferred YouTube viewing consists of airplane videos, trucks, gecko, blippi (stabs self in eye before watching another blippi video), kids videos about handymen ... oh and auntie might have encouraged some disney of late...

Don't start sneezing too or you are doomed like so many of us.
  • Just caught up with your diary - so sorry to hear about your dad. I am sure he so appreciated having you there looking after him.

Please be gentle with yourself, grief comes in waves and also makes it hard to motivate yourself to start again.
Glad you managing to do a few things that help especially all the walking and gardening.

I found the following 2 articles helpful - you may or indeed feel free to ignore  - the use of a 30min daily 'set aside space' to mourn (I know the article is about loss of a lover but the ceremony is useful as any kind of mourning  as outlined in the 2nd link) )  https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/sep/26/i-was-seeing-a-man-for-a-few-months-why-am-i-so-heartbroken

    and https://www.theguardian.com/society/2022/sep/11/mourning-rituals-help-people-cope-with-grief-scientists

Glad to hear you enjoying the Clever Chef Pro - mine is about to come swinging back into action as autumn starts ;) Soups here we go ;)
    DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff.    Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

  • Another day, another morning in Starbucks downloading off YouTube 🤷
Decided to walk back up the hill and was in a right grump so when I got home I went straight out to sort the rubbish in the garden. Because nothing says good mood like wondering how you ended up with 7 plastic handles.
Broke for lunch and then back out again. Gave myself a treat project which was to pull down the pallets that acted as a fence beside the thicket. I'm working towards clearing the side and part of the front. After yesterday's rubbish removal shenanigans it's hard to believe I still have so much left- the clearance guys took 2 cubic yards and I filled the back of a van.
Cough and snot still lingering, it's definitely easier when I am outside.
Thanks LWAP, funnily enough I did do all those things the articles mentioned.
Sadly the clever chef is still in Dublin, I travelled quite light as I was escaping by boat and train. As it stands now I have a combi microwave, a kettle and a toaster.
