But they might drink less when they have to pay for it in a pub.
I think the "determined to get bladdered brigade" will still get bladdered. ☹️

    They'll find a way.

Yes, but they will have to pay for the privilege.  People getting bladdered on 'free' booze in AI resorts contribute little to the local economy as most AI hotels are part of large chains and often foreign owned.  From a local point of view, outlawing AI completely would be a great result.  It's certainly not a case of biting the hand that feeds them.  If anything it's biting the hand that's robbing them of good custom.
Outlawing it will just mean people will go to another country. If you just want to stay at the hotel and eat and drink there, it doesn't really matter where you are. As long as the weather is decent.

It's not being outlawed - it's only a few hotels in small designated locations in the Balearics - business as usual in the vast majority of AI establishments.

I know it isn't. I was responding to the PP who suggested outlawing it would be great result for the local economy.
    Apologies, understood.
The effect would be minimal IMO.

    Update.
This article explains the legislation effective from 2020.
The real issue is why these rules were not being highlighted in advance to punters who are looking at the Balearics for a holiday, not just relegated to the small print.

I've stated upthread that a random hotel in the affected areas that I checked on Loveholidays and Jet2 does actually highlight the limitation on drinks. And not just in the small print.

Of course, if people don't read that information, they'll just assume that AI means you can drink all day and all night.

Something I picked up from the article link:
    • Restaurants and bars that serve food are also limited in how much alcohol they can serve, in addition to all-inclusive resorts. The new rules state the maximum per lunch or dinner is three alcoholic beverages.

That sounds like it affects all restaurants, not just AI hotels.
And that has not been well publicised.

    Sorry as slightly OT

We are not interested in free alcoholic drinks but need helpw ith the following

We've never been to Spain. We are are in our 50's and one is almost 60.
We have been told years ago our idea of a holiday is that of a 65 year old

    We've heard about Magaluf.

What we want is somewhere near the beach but where the older couple are not drink crazy nor
the snob tye. On TV I've seen that nice walk with marble floors along the beach in
Benidorm where some of those big drinkers go and those in those motobility scooters.

Id that Beneidorme and is it what we are looking for or could you
please suggest something that was for couple/young family
that like a nice quietish hol with people around but not too
many. We are aiming to go late May mid June.
    Thanks

I'd start your own thread or maybe post on the relevant TripAdvisor forum.

I noticed that - what I meant was that the major league firms that offer AI (TUI/First Choice and Jet2 principally) should be highlighting these restrictions up front as a general notice across their AI brochures or webites - and specifically with the brochure or online page(s) advertising the relevant hotels.

This was on the page advertising the hotel I looked at.

What constitutes a "drink" under these rules?

Small glass of wine or large?
Pint of beer or a half?

Does this also mean that they can no longer give you those little shots that you sometimes get with your bill, if you've already had, say, a bottle of wine between 2.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

    Either

One drink = one served glass of beer or wine.

    Don't over think it.
