Afternoon Turtles. Sorry for forgetting to check in yesterday, was an NSD though.
I have just come in from work and gone into the utility room to get some milk from my 2nd fridge and the freezer door was wide open with everything completely defrosted so had obviously been a couple of days. I only have a fridge freezer, shelving and the tumble dryer in there so don’t use it every day.
Unfortunately the freezer was full so I don’t know what to do. There is no raw chicken in there but there is a joint of beef and the rest was breaded chicken, fish cakes, chips, pizzas etc that sort of thing. I have just shut the door for now but due to what was in there I am inclined to just let it freeze again. Any opinions Turtles would be gratefully received!6 -
Uncooked meat should be cooked and turned into meals - it could then be divided up into portions and then frozen. If you'd had a power cut but the door had been closed throughout most things would be fine but if the door has been open you need to be very careful. With the kid's stuff I'm afraid your best option is to feed all your neighbours or friends kids. I've had to do this several times - what fool designed a fridge freezer with the switch at the bottom, just where a learning to roll and crawl baby could play with it.
You can refreeze food that has undergone a chemical change (one that isn't reversible) ie if you cook meat, there is no way to turn it back to being raw. Some of the bread coated stuff could be cooked, frozen and then heated in the microwave when you want to use it - but it might not taste as nice/ the same. Anything you can use in the next day or two should be fine - throw out anything that stinks. My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage8 -

Thankyou mothernerd and dawn w , I think I will cook the beef, chuck the breaded chicken and fish cakes and keep the veg and garlic bread. I think I will feed what’s left to OH as he was the guilty party and doesn’t seem to think it’s a problem!5

Evening Turtles. Well freezergate has been concluded after a brief argument (won by me) and I have thrown everything bar the joint of beef which is cooking as we speak. It filled 2 bin bags even after I had removed all the cardboard for recycling.
I am finding it hard to find gratitudes today after losing a good £50 worth of food, but I am grateful for some much needed rain, a rather spectacular thunderstorm in the night and losing another half a pound (it all counts!)8 -
oh blimey firsview
I'm probably wasteful of my freezer as i never have it filled up so it isnt very efficient - it usually has any YS loaves of c00p sourdough bread i can find (none this week) & frozen veg.
Achieved another NSD today. Did some of my self emp job this morning till i got dismissed from the virtual meeting - i wasn't appearing as myself but under my PT job role so i got thrown out! Even though I'd told my contact what name i would be appearing under.
Took myself back to pilates this eve, walked there and back and now feel nicely stretched.
DD1 came for tea so we had a lovely catch up.
Gratitudes - lovely walk to pilates, chilled hour with DD1, almost Friday

Quite a lengthy messaging session with DS1, I was asking about someone I thought should be told about ex's death (well 2 someones but my last contact with the second was when I knocked a pint of beer over him when I was 17 - it was an accident but he deserved it). Agreed I would try phoning (didn't know if she'd moved) and if that didn't work visit someone else who might have had more recent contact with her. The boys' inheritance is all in vinyl and old cameras (DS1 is having his attic boarded just to have somewhere to keep it until they can find a specialist auctioneer).
Protracted shopping session - B00ts sandwiches had not arrived, next shop only had pies, didn't want to go back the way I'd come. Finally found somewhere to buy a sandwich and a generous fruit salad (was worried that the smell of hot roast beef barms with onions might be too much if I didn't find a healthier option), had taken drinks with me. Went in the market and bought pot herbs and ready chopped bags of carrot and swede, walked through to the key cutting place (remembered when I was outside my front door and went back in to collect the back door key). Looked through the sale racks in 2 shops but didn't find anything to bridge the gap on my path to losing weight (favourite 3 dresses out of commission as they rub on a sore patch I'm trying to heal).
Went to the bus stop and read my book whilst waiting -we saw the bus heading towards the infirmary (it had to go all the way there and back to the bus station to collect us). Got off near mum's, walked round and dragged the bin back in then sat down to eat (knees and ankles started complaining as soon as I left home). Then back to the bus stop and sat reading again - can't work the buses out at all so have hit on getting myself to the bus stop and waiting till it arrives.
Got off at Morries and bought a mountain of healthy options - want to put as much effort as possible in before I go for blood tests. Wasn't sure if I was just in time for the bus or had just missed it but 2 other people assured me it hadn't arrived yet. Stayed on until the nearest stop to home and sat down twice in front of the town hall. Shopping into the kitchen but have only just been back to put it away. Ate and then it was time for my UC appointment. She thinks I should wait until I have the probate grant in my hand before signing off - or just telling them the facts and seeing what their response is.
Phoned my brother to tell him about the ex dying and to say probate was nearly through. He wanted to know when he should tell them about the money (we only have the cash from mum's bank account for now). I asked if he needed any money now and I'm going to gather some cash for him (his WM needs replacing and there was something else, can't think what). I owe him £500 anyway. then he started meithering about getting his stamp paid so I asked how many years contributions he had -no idea. I asked about jobs where he'd paid NI contributions and he mentioned his last job. I said to start from when he was 18. ??? So I will phone my niece, see if we can piece it together, contact Newcastle to see what his current status is and see if he needs to pay any voluntary contributions.
Then phoned my old friend and we talked for about 3/4 of an hour. She had been a friend of my ex's longer than I had but was well aware of his faults. She won't be able to attend the funeral but I'm going to post her the donation details (couldn't find DS1's post with the details on). Ate healthy grains, watched the last half hour of my serial, have sorted my shopping into the fridge and it's past screen switch off time so will settle down and read my book.
Grateful for healthy food, being able to walk (however slowly and at times painfully), my book, the woman at the key place offering to put all the key caps on for me and not charging extra because the man had used a different shape blank. and doing everything I had to even if it wasn't everything I wanted to get done.My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage8 -
