Thrifty - It was Operation Mincemeat. I really enjoyed it even though I knew the story from watching The Man Who Never Was numerous times and reading Ben MacIntyre's book. A who's who of excellent British actors. The Boy thought it was excellent.
Money - Now on NSD No 9. I'm in a bit of a dilemma. The TV we have at the moment was given to the Boy some years ago by a friend who was returning home to Kuwait and he gave it to us. It works perfectly well but, as we all know, Himself isn't good with technology and I was thinking about getting a smart TV as he found the one in our rental cottage much easier to use. The Boy has found one on what he says is a very good deal (he's very knowledgeable about these things). We don't really need it but we can afford it and it would make life easier so to buy or not to buy?
House - To be honest, I've just been pottering. It's looking clean and tidy but I haven't really got into it properly this week. However my plants are blooming. An absolute riot of colour and looking so cheerful.
Me - Well, I'm feeling contended and less stressed than usual so I must be doing something right.
Right! Coffee finished. Must go and do something productive. Have a good day.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.6 -

Toni'sfriend - i would buy the smart TV, although you say it isn't a need it is a benefit by making life easier & you can afford it so if it was me then i would buy it for those reasons.

Toni'sfriend I'd say buy (I'll even allow it as medical so you keep your NSD). It's all about what fits your life now. I need a new kitchen (it's 18 years old) but I could make it do another couple of years if I had to. The top cupboards are hardly used any more - I can only put plates away one at a time because of the arthritis in my right shoulder (left shoulder also starting to grumble) and Beloved is shorter than me so can't reach them.
My new kitchen will have better lighting (may have the ceiling lowered - needs one corner repairing anyway), the taps with a bar so that I can turn them on or off with an elbow if I need to.Lots of pan drawers for storage (soft close so the drawer does all the work). Probably have a built in oven with a drop down door . I don't necessarily 'need' all these atm but this is going to be my last kitchen (for 20+ years) and I need to think about all the changes I might need to adapt to and have a kitchen that works for 'future me'. Most people leave it much too late to make the changes and then find they are too old to cope with the mess and upheaval. It won't have a black or dark coloured floor or worktop because I can't see things that drop, they 'disappear' once they're out of reading range. My eyesight isn't going to miraculously improve, it's only going to get worse.
It's not morbid, it's working out what you are going to need and making sure it's in place before the need gets critical. I'm having to ask DS3 to turn the gas on when I want to use the hob (not sure if it's because the age of the cooker has made them stiff or because it's a push in and then turn motion), the oven control is still within my capability.
I learnt something new yesterday. I'd pressed the button at the traffic lights (having to be careful about that as well - sat waiting ages a few days ago because I hadn't pushed it hard enough the first two times) and then a man came up and showed me how to make them change faster. There's a small knob underneath the 'box' - it's meant for blind people, but if you turn the knob it accelerates through to 'your' turn. I don't know if I'll use it, I quite like pressing the button and then sitting down on the walker to wait, but it' useful to know (anything that alters the balance between the drivers and the pedestrian)My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage5 -

Made it to payday for my FT job, had £3 left in my bank account, phew! Had a busy day WfH. Friend's hubby came round to show me how to check my tyre pressure, as i was on a work call, he just sorted it for meI did manage to learn how to do it myself for next time though. Popped out at lunch to get petrol and drop friend at the station. DD1 came round this afternoon and hoovered and mopped the floors for me
Got my £150 council tax payment. Can't celebrate this with any of my friends as they all live in houses that are a higher band!
Going to pop to the SM for essentials - cheese, cat food and wine - so will be a spendy day.
Gratitudes - DD1 making the house look shiny and bright, friend's hubby helping to keep my car safe, relaxed Friday eve

Evening Turtles. Spendy day today, collected my shopping from Mr T and then the land of ice called to replace what I lost from my freezer. Brought my Dads attendance allowance form home to fill in, he isn’t too sure as a lot of his generation aren’t keen on claiming benefits. When the water workers went on strike in the 1970’s he lived on his savings and any of the men that claimed anything were looked down on. Luckily attitudes have changed now!
Did 2 lots of washing and am hanging them on the line overnight in the hope they will have time to dry by tomorrow afternoon. Unfortunately the washing basket is in our bedroom and I keep tripping over the mountain that people have thrown in it’s general direction so drastic action was called for as I refuse to use the tumble dryer when there isn’t an R in the month!
Today I am grateful for a visit to my Dad, my huge washing line and it being Friday.
Right, off to consume some alcohol as it isn’t a school night!
