What rates are you being offered by your provider at the moment?

We are with Scottish Power for Gas and Electric, we were paying £113 per month, the new tariff they are offering us is estimated at £321.50 per month. I thought that the prices were going up by 54%? Should I be querying this with Scottish Power?!0

You are quoting direct debit amounts, that is not the change in cost, that is what your supplier asks you to pay upfront based on his estimates what energy you are going to use in the next 12 months.
Are you coming off a fixed tariff? That is at the moment the worst shock you can have. Price increases of 100% for electricity and 300 to 350% for gas are not unusual.
If you want somebody to have closer look if the new direct debit is justified you need to give us your energy use for the last 12months for gas and electricity (electricity day and night use if you are on E7). As E7 rates differ between suppliers we would also need day and night rates if you are on E7, otherwise to know what energy region you are in is enough. Last point is we need to know if you are in credit or debt on the last bill, and by how much.1 -
Hi this is my first time so apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place! My fixed rate finishes at the end of the month and my provider have offered me the following..what do you think? Should I fix or go onto the variable? If I go fixed the daily charge for gas is £12.251 the kwh is £8.526. Electric daily charge is £28.248 the kwh is £36.847
If I go variable, gas daily charge is £13.979 the kwh is £7.225. Electric daily charge is £35.703 the kwh is £27.09.To me it doesn’t look like much between them so I’m thinking fix, but I don’t have a trained eye in these things so I’d welcome feedback. Many thanks0 -

Hi All,
My existing dual fuel fixed deal comes to an end on June 1st and EDF have given me an option to fix, and would appreciate your thoughts.
The variable rate they have is
Elec Unit / S-Chrg / Gas Unit/ S-Chrg27.836 49.644 7.335 27.216
Offer: Fix Total Service May 24v4 (£150 early exit for each fuel so £300 total if a Greeeeat deal comes up later)Elec Unit / S-Chrg / Gas Unit/ S-Chrg 34.85 49.65 9.692 27.22
I roughly calculate this as a 25% increase over variable for electric, and 32% increase over gas. I remember seeing that if you get a deal around the 25% mark or lower it would be a good bet. But now unsure because the gas is higher.
I have signed up for the fix, but within my 14 cooling off period.....just wondering what your thought are?
Thanks in advance

If you have signed up already you feel that the security is worth the higher price.
It also depends a bit on how much gas you use in relation to electricity. You need to calculate your cost using real usage figures, and than compare the cost to the current SVT, and calculate by how much the new SVT needs to increase to benefit you.
Calculate also the additional 4 months you are paying now already the more expensive rate, that you need to the comparison. The new October SVT needs to not just break even, it needs to be more expensive, otherwise you don't benefit.
The higher percentage for gas should not be a problem, it is expected that like last CAP the increase for gas will again be higher than the increase for electricity.
Personally I think the fix is a bit on the high side, especially with the exit fees, but you never know. It depends of course also on a few other things like how well can you afford the higher cost, how high is your monthly cost, so is the exit fee a month or six or what is the additional cost per month on the fix.1 -
