I’ve just done the same, hoping that when the government £400 rolls in,
it will knock at least £30 off my DD of £230.

You've got the same tariff as me with the same unit costs and SC. These are about 49% above the current SVT rates and with the new prediction today that it could be an increase of over 80% come October then the fix rates are a no brainer.

I would suggest that everybody who currently has an offer for a fix should immediately take it and use the cool off to do further checks.

It will be only matter of hours before all current fixes are withdrawn. That happened after every new prediction.

What looked inflated yesterday might look brilliant tomorrow.
I've not long woken up, after reading this thread went straight to check if the fix at 58.98p was still available, nope, Loyal Octopus is now 69.56p :(

Needs a smart meter.  Even if my parents relented and we asked for one fitted, what are the chances it will be superceded by a new tariff version with a higher cap by the time it's installed?

(If we had a smart meter already we'd have hopped onto the original 35p capped Agile!)

Edit: I forgot Tracker electricity, capped 55p.  My parents had seen the news, a discussion has been had, and if we must have a smart meter we will (reluctantly - we love the simplicity of our current one!).

I bit on my fixed deal with British Gas, 50p per kwh and 31p daily s/c - as my current fix ends on the 2nd Sept, it's only 1 month where the unit price is higher than the current SVT.

If government is offering every household £400 off their bills at £66 or £67 per month from october has this been financed into fixed tariff deals being offered .

No because say for example you are on a fixed DD of £100 for your electricity. In October £66 will be paid by the government and the energy company will only take £34.

It has no bearing on fixed deals whatsoever

I can’t imagine they’d be able to do that. They might be gambling on the possibility of the government being forced, politically, to cap the cap though and either have no increase at all on 1 October or a much smaller one than it should be. Just to stop the potential rioting and refusals to pay. Been there before with Poll Tax - a really good idea, but political suicide.
