When the predictions came out in July I done exactly this then spent 2 days researching my fix decision. Our 42p kw for Electric with British Gas now looks a bargain only 4 weeks later!pochase said:I would suggest that everybody who currently has an offer for a fix should immediately take it and use the cool off to do further checks.
It will be only matter of hours before all current fixes are withdrawn. That happened after every new prediction.
What looked inflated yesterday might look brilliant tomorrow.0 -
I'm with BG. These do called deals are fairy tales. My dad is with BG. No offers there either.
I'd like to know if anyone had seen these deals and if so where have they been?
As for the rises.
What's more obscene. The companies or the government. We've got these companies making record profits and also hammering us at the same time.
Of course these very same companies also financially support the tories and he who pays the piper.
The new tory leader will shift the party even further to the right and be even more inclined to make sure that their multi national paymasters profits come before the needs of the people.
Of course all of this has been coming since Thatcher privatised the utilities. Nobody has cared less until now.
And now it's too late to stop them as these companies have top much power.
I'm not remotely surprised by any of this. Next up will be the water companies playing games and putting up prices as they've totally neglected the infrastructure. To maintain, invest and upgrade cuts profits.
Therefore we the people will have to pay as profits come before people.

We bought our first house 6 months ago, so this is all new to me as have only ever rented with a total including bills monthly figure, so trying to figure out what to do.
We're currently paying £220 a month for dual fuel on a rolling variable plan with OVO, but the house has been empty for the last 6 months while its being renovated.
We're currently £1200 in credit as a result, but now being offered a 2 year fix at £260 per month.
Based on the average kW usage numbers online, we'd probably be paying c.£160 a month for the year on the variable tariff, but unclear just how much those unit rates are going to rise after this morning's news.
Any thoughts on what we should do?

Thanks, so as the £260 I'm being offered is less than 82% above the current £220, I guess that is a good deal to take? It's actually available on both a 1 and 2 year fixMstty said:

You can’t mention Thatcher and be taken seriously. She left office 32 years ago!Zoobzi37 said:I'm with BG. These do called deals are fairy tales. My dad is with BG. No offers there either.

Therefore we the people will have to pay as profits come before people. The huge profits from Shell and BP are not relevant they are primary producers and not energy suppliers of which many have gone bust. BG huge profits are from Nuclear, oil and gas and not the energy supply side of the businessYes OFGEM are a failed government quango who seem to be acting for suppliers. Why their failures should be passed onto consumers and not shareholders is beyond me.Energy supply is broken but going back to nationalisation and self serving unions - far left loonies no thanks. We will end up with strikes 24-7 and blackouts being a monopoly. Look how London Underground has been ruined. The prices are set on global markets and energy bills are going to be ridiculous all over including Germany. Yes more countries are doing much more than ours and that has to change.0 -
You certainly can mention Thatcher and be taken seriously - because both Sunak and Truss (both clearly hopelessly inadequate for the job, but we're all going to be stuck with one of them - Lightweight Liz) are trying to emulate her. Truss in particular by even dressing like her and posing on tanks and Union flags!dazzapb said:

Far left loonies - with you on that. But the right wing loonies we've had since 2010 are just as bad, given what they've done to the infrastructure of the country with pointless cuts. The NHS was deliberately run down, the roads are collapsing under the weight of never-done repairs, schools are falling apart and social care has collapsed. And the energy market has been allowed to profit the oil and gas suppliers to the exclusion of ordinary people who, this winter, won't be able to heat their houses. We've had this lot for 12 years now, including their disastrous Brexit, and look at the state of the country - Russian money has been majorly funding the Conservative Party and it looks very much as if the Russians have got good value for their money. One day we'll almost certainly find out that they've actually managed to plant agents within the political system - I've got a few guesses already.0 -
We have been offered 12 month fix by E.on V18.
Electric
51.86 kw
48.91 daily standing charge
Gas
13.21 kw
27.22 standing charge
currently paying 27.09 and 7.23 respectively. The standing charges are the same. Seems like an astronomical hike but should I do it?0 -
Only you can decide given the media and predictions that are out there, but to help have a read here.AbleAssistant said:We have been offered 12 month fix by E.on V18.

Eon Next products should have zero exit fees so if you are undecided take it now and wait for the Ofgem announcement on the 26th August.0 -
I was on a fixed tariff with them which ended in June. They offered me another one, which I accidentally agreed to and them came out of within 14 days because at that time the predictions weren't as bad. They emailed me another fixed tariff offer a few days ago.Zoobzi37 said:I'm with BG. These do called deals are fairy tales. My dad is with BG. No offers there either.
