On E-on Next after being prematurely booted off a cushty Symbio Energy fix when they went bust.
Now being offered v18 12 month fix for electric only as below..
Insanely expensive (it's a really old stone cottage).
Currently on variable tarrif
50.05p daily standing charge
27.91p per kwh unit charge
Forgive my poor arithmetic but am I missing something.. How is this fix supposed to be 73% more, when in actual fact the unit rate is actually doubling?

With EDF and had been paying £90 p/m in January which was a fixed rate price that ended on 31st March (great timing)
Now on the variable tariff which initially increased to £149 but is going up again this month to £294
EDF are offering a fix for the low monthly sum of £503
I really need to look into our consumption again as we're always using ~ 22,000 kwh gas per year in a 2 bedroom house, always seems too high0 -

Check you aren't heating water all day and to again a high temp. Most are happy with 45oC showers this time of year so have a play and take that into winter. 2 bed house so presume not too many people maybe an hour a day heating hot water before you normally take showers.1 -

It says existing Eon Next customers can get a fix now that's 73% more, but I'm wondering if that's for dual fuel cos for me (electric only), on the fix, the unit charge is doubling.

No one can say whether these predictions will become true or will be accurate but it's all we have right now

It is always the average for dual fuel.
Also the percentage are include the standing charges, which will not increase everybody believes. So this will bring down the percentage of the quoted increase.
Example
28p to 56p = 100%
45p standing charge staying constant
Usage 2900KWh
now: 0,28 x 2900 + .45 x 365 = 976.25
Fix: 0.56 x 2900 + 45 x 365 = 1788.25
This is an increase of 83,17%, even so the unit rate increases by 100%. And that is the way the percentages in the article will be calculated. Just there will be the average 12000KWh for gas included in the calculation.

Is it set on ‘comfort mode’ for hot water? If so, turn it off.
I can’t fathom how you use so much gas, it’s 3x higher than mine in a 1970’s 3 bed semi with combi boiler and gas hob. Is your heating on all day every day in the winter trying to reach temperature due to the room thermostat being in a cold place?
Are you having baths every day?
Mine is in my living room, set to 20 degrees when it’s very cold, on for an hour early morning, 90 mins around lunchtime then 4.30-9.00pm when it usually kicks in once or twice to maintain temperature.0 -
Been very lucky last 2 years as was on a very low tariff deal that found online in 2020. Current Fixed Tariff was called: Saver August 2022 Em1. Paying only £69 a month for both Electric and Gas on a 2 bed apartment. We barely need to use the heating in winter as the building is always over warm. We are always in credit on the account.
Our yearly usage is estimated around £400-600 a year and we pay £69 a month on direct debit. This current tariff runs out on 31st August.
Just received this new quote as of end of the month, 1 year flexi fixed is all they are offering so is not even a fixed tariff.
The new quote is £1800+ a year and £156.93 a month direct debit.....I tried to speak to them on phone, just get bounced around departments who barely speak english and just repeat scripts while refusing to pass me to complaints or a supervisor/manager.
It is a 100-125% increase on direct debit and 300% increase in estimated yearly usage compared to what we are paying now. The direct debit they are suggesting would not even cover the increase.
This can't be right, Scottish Power is literally taking advantage of the energy crisis to take advantage of people for greed. End of.
Thinking of cancelling direct debit and just refusing to pay. Is just disgusting.
