You need to know your energy use very well to consider this fix.

You will need to know how much you will be using up to October and in the following quarters to calculate the loss or savings. This required that you have either already a spreadsheet or all MONTHLY invoices with REAL meter readings available. As we are talking BG with six monthly billing this will already be the show stopper.

Take also into account that we had a mild winter last year, a harsher winter will change the usage drastically. And we have no idea how the good the predictions from January onwards are.

I personally would consider a small higher cost for October (2p to 3p for electricity) but no unit rate that is only pennies below a predicted rate.

That is only my personal opinion. Do your own calculations and own gamble.

I have fixed at the following for a year:-

    14.93 for gas.

    49.85 for day elec.

    32.17 for night elec.

Same SC as current variable tarif. Does anyone no if this is a good fix? Many Thanks

    This is a not bad.

Why do you have E7 and gas? In most cases this is more expensive than a single rate. What percentage is you night usage?

Oh gosh I don’t actually no! That was what I was put on when Octopus took over my Avro account when they went bust and I never thought anything of it. Not sure what to do now I have fixed at that!

You can ask them what the cost for single rate is on the SAME fixed tariff. Not change a tariff, just from E7 to single rate within the same fix if possible.

But you need to know how much you use at night first. Check your bill.

I think pochase meant why do you have an E7 meter, not why did you go for the dual rate tariff (when many suppliers are happy to add two readings together and charge at the single rate)

In my case, I had E7 at my previous home so when I moved into this one (a new build) I asked for an E7 meter even though I have gas heating here. It was what I was used to, and I don't think I have lost out over the years. I do check and reckon my normal night usage in the 20 to 30% range has just about broken even on the tariffs I have been on, though not always and I have in my time requested the single rate when I could see that would be beneficial.

Yesterday BG offered me the fixed oct23v4 that Martin talks about. Today it’s offering me fixed sep23v2 which is more than the 96% increase Martin talks about. Why has it changed overnight? Do I wait to see if I get offered the other one again tomorrow?
We keep telling people to take a fixed tariff that looks ok, and start thinking after. You can always use the cool off to get rid of it if you change your mind or see something better within the 2 weeks.

The market is volatile and tariffs may be withdrawn within hours.
That's what I did with the Sep one yesterday. I waited to speak to my hubby which was a mistake as I didn't know about the 14 day cooling off period. I only just found this board after it happened!

Thanks for the advice. I have checked my usage for the last 10 months (since I was switched to octopus from avro) and I use roughly 5 times as much day elec as night. I rung octopus and got a quote for 46.95p. But when doing the maths it works out almost the exactly the same as the day / night rate. But I really appreciate u taking the time to reply and now in the future I will check the rates of both eco 7 & single rate before fixing 😊

3p less in overall is not worth it. I agree you should stick with the E7. Maybe move some things like washing machine, tumble dryer or dish washer into the night rate to save more.
