EDF have offered and I've just accepted for now but feeling really ripped off!

Looking at what others have been offered by their companies and disgruntled at not being allowed to switch!! why is that?? I feel like it just adds to the lack of market forces competition to help keep the prices down!

    Electricity
    Original Tariff:
    28.29p unit standing charge 48.15p
    offered: 56.82p same standing charge

    Gas
    Original tariff
    7.44p  standing charge 27.22
    offered Tariff
    17.44p standing charge the same

    Annual Usage:
    Elec 6219KWh Gas 26,079KWh

Feeling sick at my estimated £698 pm DD!!!
It's going to be a long cold winter!! Glad I can knit! Jumpers all round!!!

That is a very high annual gas consumption!! More than twice the average - might be worth looking into getting that down a bit?

Without the price per kWh you are being offered it's tough to even give you further information.

Nuts it may be, but our usage is even higher, and that’s in a newish, energy efficient house with solar panels. Sometimes, it’s just not possible to make meaningful reductions.

Liz truss says temporary moratorium on the green energy levy so people are spending less of their money on fuel bills..
How would that affect people on a fixed rate .
Would bills be cut but fixed rate people not get the benefits .

I have been offered 2 electricity fixed tariffs from my existing supplier who is EDF and from Octopus who are my current Gas supplier and are wanting me to go duel fuel

EDF - 2 year fixed price - £150 exit fee

    40.79 p KWh
    48.53 p Daily Standing charge

Octopus - 1 year fixed price - £ nil exit fee

    40.79 p KWh
    48.26 p Daily stsnding charge

Not much in the price structure just 1 year or 2 is the longer term price going to rocket further or the opposite its going to start falling ?

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum.

Both of those come under the predicted price of electricity come October then the subsequent rise again in Jan 2023.

However no one has come to the forum with a fixed deal for electricity at that price for a long time from Octopus. Are you sure it's not more like 60p.
I was given the prices on the 13th June by email so i have a copy , i then confirmed the prices were still valid on the 12th July
So it's been a week since you confirmed the prices with Octopus

Which did you chose as the EDF rates and octopus rates were both very similar? As you have a foot in both camps you can chose who you like best?
    Hi M

i have not chosen yet ,i am away on holiday till mid next week , both similar prices but

EDF ( For ) is good price , fixed for 2 years .
( Against ) £150 to switch away earlier , Electric bills only twice per year and smart meter install required

Octopus - ( For ) is a good price , monthly bill produced , stick with old meter , no fee to switch away
    ( Against) - only a 12 month fix

If Octopus would give me their price on a 2 year fix it would be easier to decide on them
    Decisions , Decisions .
it i leave it to long the fixes will both be withdrawn

I'm sure it would apply to all domestic tariffs. It wouldn't be acceptable to include one group of consumers but exclude others. I'd imagine the way it would be done is that tariffs wouldn't be altered but there would be a rebate per unit used which would be the same for all tariffs.
