There must be a fair chance that the government will tinker with the so-called price cap mechanism and impose a lower cap than would normally apply - with subsidies to cover it.  That's one of the risks with a high-priced fixed contract.
If the government use subsidies to reduce the cap, it will cost them much more than it would to give equivalent help via means-tested routes. Blanket subsidies would signal that, despite having had at least six months to come up with a better scheme, the gov't hasn't really thought about it.

Hi - my bill has been around £75 a month and outfox the market has offered this which would bring my estimated monthly bill to £283!! As far as I can work out, this would be worse value even if bills go up as predicted but wondering if someone could confirm I should just stay on the the cap tariff. Thanks

Outfox the market fixes are known to be one of the worse value out there.

Switches available to the following but the top one EDF you will only match the SVT that outfox the market must put you on if you don't fix. The other two are worth exploring

    EDF SVT tariff

Octoopus SVT tariff or tracker or mis of tracker and Agile depending on if they have a smart meter and fancy those tariffs

    GreenEnergyUK Sparkling fixed tariff

With wholesale gas prices at their lowest level since November 2021, we want to know what fixed energy deals you're being offered by your current provider.

There are very few fixed deals available to new customers on the market, and those that are tend to be pricey. Yet sometimes we do hear of short-lived 'existing customer only' deals from certain firms that can be competitive. These deals aren't available on comparison sites, making them hard to keep track of.

Is there a good one out there that fellow MoneySavers might be missing out on?

Let us know the name of the tariff and the name of the supplier.
    EDF useless support.....
prior to Jan 2022 i was on an EV tariff at end of my contract i defaulted to the standard variable tariff ECO20:20

i have now looked at securing a fixed term tariff which shows on my online account. When i go to proceed to i am unable to do so and required to call EDF Tariff team. Now this is where it all falls through. The team can not help me with any EV tarriff as it is deemed complex meter, after several calls i get to the EV team that are now saying they are not offering any fixed term tarrifs and will add me to the Alerts list.

The tariff i was hoping to fix on was GOELECTRICMAY24v2

How is it acceptable for an energy supplier to reject a tariff

  • Fuming with BG but just want to check if this is worth switching over to

Current fixed £92/Month - ends end of July
I switched to a new fixed one (£227/month) beginning of July but it wasn't supposed to move over to this until end of July when this contract ended (was my understanding)

Long story short they switched me straight away. I rung them and said I should be on old tariff for the remainder of July, At which point he said I will switch you back then until end of July. I questioned 3 times I can still go to this new fixed deal at end of July he said yes.

Having phoned today I am now told this tariff isn't available now. I said but I confirmed I wanted it at beginning of July, I just didn't want to switch and pay extra for a whole of the month.

So now the best they can offer is £297 a month 3 times more than currently paying

Is this worth fixing for a year does anyone know? Here's how the £3513 a year breaks down unit costs

    Unit gas 15.1p/kwh

    Unit elect 51p/kwh

    Standing 51p& 24p

I am so confused by all of this

    Thanks in advance

Electric was moved to BG as SOLR and a few months ago went for May23v1 fix 32.186p/unit, 55.376p/SC.
My gas was transferred to EDF as SOLR, I thought it maybe be best to have one supplier so last month decided to swap gas to BG, which is now complete.
BG are now offering Oct23v1, gas 15.113p/unit with 24.480p/SC.

Isnt the expected rise in Oct22 to be about 14-15p/unit for gas?

EDF have withdrawn all EV tariff after latest increase of the predicted cap. It was available until 2 weeks ago, but most likely not the tariff from May you are quoting.

You are quoting a tariff that was in place two months ago and is no longer offered as the prices have increased. In the current situation you cannot afford to wait, people have been hit by tariffs been withdrawn within a week.

Yes the SVT for gas is currently predicted to be around 14,17p (regional variations will apply), but they are offering a fixed tariff that is not regulated by cap, and therefore they can offer whatever they want.

You got an excellent fix for your electricity , but you missed out on fixing gas at the same time. Since you fixed in May there were three increasing cap predictions and after each the offered fixed tariffs got more expensive.

The new offered fixed tariff is far more expensive than the predicted SVT and most likely not worth it.

Do you have any proof that they have given you wrong information, for example what did the confirmation of the tariff change say when the tariff will start?

Like most things it was luck fixing the electric with BG and my mistake/dislike with EDF for not fixing gas with them.
My electric usage is similar monthly but like most gas is seasonal.

So need to balance if Putin decides to shut off gas supplies to Europe or whether a political intervention occurs to cap/subsidise prices.
