Its quoting £170 a month, much cheaper than what we've been offered by British Gas, but when I go through to sign up it says they operate Variable Direct Debits. When you sign up is there an option to change this? I'd rather spread it equally through the year than be out of pocket in winter.
I would screenshot that £170.@ month quite if that is your annual usage and once switched set your fixed direct debit to that if that's what you want to do. (Don't forget October-March will likely mean a £66.67 credit to your account each month from the £400 energy help from the government. So entirely up to you but I might be inclined to stay variable but that's because I know my usage throughout the winter and even if it's a mild or cold one👍0 -

I'm in second week of cooling period next week so won't be switching until end August most likely.0 -
Thanks both. I'm just signing up with them now while the price is still good. Such a great find. So glad I came across this forum.1

"What is a Fixed Direct Debit?A fixed Direct Debit means that we estimate the amount of electricity you would use over a year and divide by the 12 months, providing you with the same single payment each month. This means that in the summer you build up some credit on the account which helps people budget for the extra electricity used over the winter period.
You will receive a quarterly invoice.
If you can send us regular meter reads this helps us to ensure the Direct Debit is set at the right amount.
This type of payment is great for people who want to budget for their expenditure every month without fluctuations in their bills.
Note that if your energy usage changes, we will need to adjust your direct debit amount. We’ll usually send you a credit (if your energy usage has gone down) or a catch-up bill (if your energy usage has increased)"

Just requested a switch to Green energy, as well as the competitive price vs current offer from BG, I was impressed when I had a couple of questions, rang and they answered within 2 rings, to an actual person not an IVR. Off peak is also 12-7am for all those with storage heaters or home batteries. Not the lowest rate but 15p per kw cheaper than the day rate and 11p cheaper than standard rate for single tariff.0

@Pulpdiction was the off peak on the Sparkling tariff? I didn't see an off peak mentioned anywhere0

I'm with British Gas for both Gas & Electricity & I've been told by them that my
.... "current fixed-rate tariff is coming to an end, and we're moving you onto our Standard Variable tariff, which is currently the cheapest available"
My direct debit will go from £142 to £234 a month (65% increase)
Their fixed tariff would be £414 a month!1 -
