If the current "crisis" is affecting the price of gas and oil based electricity generation, how come the "green" energy prices have gone up the same, i.e. those produced by nuclear or solar or wind? Has the price of wind gone up?
More expensive to build a wind farm than than equivalent output gas powered generating station.

Scottish Gas Exclusive May 2023 v1
    (South Scotland Region)

    Electricity:

    Standing charge:
    56.496p per day
    Unit rate:
    32.666p per kWh

Fixed price energy until 31st May 2023**
Exit fees of £75.00 per fuel if you switch to another supplier. No exit fees for switching to another British Gas tariff.

For me it works out about an expected 16% uplift - it's almost tempting for the certainty especially with the free swap to a cheaper BG tariff if available ...

    British Gas  have just contacted me with this;
    33.644 kWh
    54.446daily standing
    £75 exit fees

Currently on Welcome to British gas
    27.092 per kWh
    48.913daily standing
    No exit fees
It works out about 20% increase If I knew what the estimated costs of the next price cap breakdown into unit costs and daily standing charge I could decide.Atm I pay £56 dd slightly mir6e than I use, my choice as a  back up in case I go over.It could go to £70 If I switch!!!

But much cheaper to run it once it's built.

  • I think my biggest bill will be the electricity needed to charge the defibrillator to recover from the shock of the increase e.on Next have given me for gas/ electric.
For the last six or seven years, my annual bill has been around£450 - £500; this year's "estimated" bill is £2,160, with my DD going from £38 a month to £180.
Now, where'd I leave those candles?

I am with Utilita on the Smart Energy tariff, I am being charged 51.50p Electric & 20.746p Gas for the 1st 2 KWH per day! This is double the daily standing charge on British Gas. Utilita claim they do not have a standing but this charge is above ( or i believe it to be above) the price cap but i cant change provider because no companies are taking on new customers. Not sure what i can do i am stuck! :(
I believe the 8 tenticled one is accepting new customers. May need a referral though. Good luck.

Hello, I'm North West with OVO

    My current tariff is

Elec 15.59p per kWh and SC 22.39 p/day

Gas 3.11p per kWh and SC 26.04 p/day

And my DD is currently £120 p/mth

I cannot renew till 22 June but have telephone as a new customer and got the prices

Elec 38.58p per kWh and SC 44.81 p/day

Gas 11.06p per kWh and SC 27.51 p/day

Based on my last 12 months usage with these new prices the average per month is £254 + vat, which is very worrying.

Has anyone got new prices from OVO?

Those prices will be for a fix. If you don't do anything in June when your existing fix ends then you should be automatically put on the SVT which will be cheaper than those prices that you have been quoted.
Of course, we don't know what will happen to the SVT prices come next review in October (most likely go up but by how much) ...
