I popped into M*rks today for yoghurt and milk and was horrified to see that 1kg fat free greek style yoghurt has gone up from £1.70 to £2.10 and 4 pints of organic semi skimmed milk has gone up from £1.85 to £1.95.3

I'm away on Friday for my holidays, I dread to think how much stuff will have increased by the time I return in mid-July. Good job I have a bit of spare cash squirrelled away to restock my freezer with

Exactly what I've had to do this week JackieO. Cost far more than I had expected it too with the way prices have gone and are continuing to go.
Enjoy the Isle of Wight with your family.

Yaverland beach is the other end of Sandown so we usually take a picnic and our fold up chairs and brolly and spend the day, the boys swimming, and the dogs running up and down the beach.
Its one of the dog -friendly beaches (we know them all ) and its very beautiful and so relaxing just sitting in the sun reading or just nattering and enjoying the fresh sea air.
Or go to Yarmouth and walk along the old railway track to Freshwater, the boys hire bikes and my son-in-law,DD and I walk along with the dogs its about a mile and a bit and flat so not only dog friendly by Grandma friendly as well (no hills )
You see a good few red squirrels along there and some really nice birds as well. we are definitely country lovers with a bit of seaside thrown in.The boys have seen all thetourist bits over the years so we tend to steer clear of anywhere too crowded.my Dd and the boys go sea fishing and often catchsomething for dinner that night we have had some gorgeous sea bass as fresh as you can get it, and my son-in-law cooks it Its a very relaxing holiday away from the rush and tear of the mainland. One reason why we are hoping to move there next year permanantly.my late husband came from there and my Dd spent half her life there growing up.its even more peaceful when the visitors go home at the end of summer.:) Who needs crowded airports and uncomfortable waits and all the hassle of sunspots, its one of the sunniest and driest places in the Uk with a very mild climate.
I have been coming here for the best part of 50 odd years and it never disappoints. In the evening we play cards. or scrabble or chess, or just sit on the verandah and watch the sun go down . We rarely watch TV, its nicer just to watch the sea birds wheeling around 100 yards from the house. TV is there if we want it but we all say TV is for when we are back at home ,not on holidayRoll on Friday morning I'm packed already

I'm from Portsmouth, hence have spent many days on the IOW.
As a kid i was always jealous of the amount of snow they had, closing schools etc, when in Portsmouth we'd have just a light covering. Ventnor area seemed always to be badly affected and i guess the Downs influenced this.
After many years of absence, i took my own daughter to the Island in 2010 and was surprised by just how busy it had become, particularly the roads around Newport, crawling traffic etc.
Of those i know who have lived or continue to live there, all commute across to the mainland for work. The joys of bobbing around in the Solent when the weather is too bad for the ferry to get into the harbour! My IFA comes across on the Hovercraft, leaving his car permanently, parked on the mainland. Elevates the blood pressure apparently. It can be a very desolate place in winter, much the same as other 'holiday type places' along the South Coast, Witterings, Hayling etc spring to mind.

Have a lovely holiday Jackie O.I'm just north of Portsmouth, when I was working we had three caulkheads who commuted daily, same as your IFA, they also parked their shared car near Hover terminal, guess it's quite common for them?DS & family love IOW, they go over from Southampton and usually finish up at Osborne House, GD is history madEnjoy your hols J OEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4 -

I always smile when talking to my relatives on the IoW when they say "Do you know it took me a good ten minutes to get through Newport today "
It can take me half an hour to get to my DDs who lives 2 miles from me in Kent. The traffic is busier than it used to be around Newport, because of the shops and cinema, but nothing like the mainland at all thank goodness.
I remember when my late ma-in-law was alive her yearly trip to Sothampton to M&S to stock up on things as there was no M&S on the Island at all. She lived in Northwood, which is just outside Cowes and her weekly shopping was done at Somerfields in Newport, or over at Ryde.
But the shops were very small compared to the size they are now. But its well serviced with all of the big shops now, and even Cowes has The Range and an Aldis .
At one time the bus fares used to drop after the summer season had finished and the 'overners' went homebut get away from the main town and it really hasn't changed that much. People still talk to each other in the shops, and theres always plenty to do, even in the winter. We even have a winter break there in November for my son-in-laws birthday
My late husband was a 'caulkhead' and he loved the Island. We have spent so much time over there it really is home from home for us.
Once I get on the boat tomorrow at Pompey I shall be a happy lady and two weeks of R & R will do nicely
Take care everyone and 'see' you all mid-July, when I come home laden with goodies,(a visit to the Garlic farm is a must for me) to stock up on their fabulous garlic mayo. I usually spend the last afternoon before coming back farm shopping for fresh veg, as their tomatoes are soo good especially
Cheers chums

Re Heinz - they have stopped supply to Tesco because of price disagreements.
We have online Tesco since Covid and have started going to the shops again off-peak but we buy their beans and soups and sauces and salad cream ever since I can remember.0
