Another thing to watch while prices are jumping up is the value of different sizes. Usually it's better value if you buy a larger size unless there's an offer on, but not always - maybe to do with stock coming in at different times. For example at the moment Heinz spaghetti with sausages at Tesco. 400 grams £1.40; 200 grams 65p.3

I freeze lurpak spreadable and its fine. I always buy a few when it's on offer and put them in the freezer. The one i'm using at the moment is almost 12 months old.

I noticed in M*rks today that ordinary, not organic, 400g tinned chickpeas have gone up from 60p to 70p in the space of a week.3 -
Today, popped into Morries. Their own (Weetabix) brand, 48 wheat biscuits, up from £2.45 to £2 59. Ouch!3

I ordered from Ocado as they gave me £10 off if I spent £60 and I was looking at kitchen roll. There was a four pack of the bigger Plenty kitchen roll for £8.25! Is that a normal price? I went to the local shop near me and bought the cheaper brand (maybe Happy Shopper?) 4 rolls for less than £2.4

However it (Plenty) frequently has an offer on it so might be possible to avoid the higher price most if not all the time. Having said that, £6 was the price I was avoiding not so long ago as it would be on offer for £4.50 quite often.
£6 (normal price till recently) to £8.25 is over 35%.
A 2 roll pack is now £5 in both Tesco and Waitrose!

I do occasionally use kitchen roll but really begrudge the prices so have changed to a cheap one from Sainsburys that (currently) costs 99p for a roll of 240 sheets. Yes, it's thinner than most but it's OK for my needs. And I sometimes cut the sheets in half - I'm such a tight wad! When I need something a bit sturdier I have a bagful of rags made from worn out T-shirts, towels etc that I can use instead.
Be kind to others and to yourself too.4 -
