Grocery Price Increases - What's the Biggest Hike You've Seen?

We buy frozen tesco sweetcorn every 4 weeks or so.
The price had been one pound for about a year.
Today it was ONE Pound and 50p
50% mark up0 -
Heinz soup £1.40; supermarket own brand 55p.
Heinz beans £1 (or more), supermarket own brand 27p
But branded goods everywhere on supermarket shelves. Cost of living "crisis"?, not really but things are more expensive yes. But then if you have always been a canny shopper you cope, you get on with it, you adapt.0 -
General_Grant said:Not a specific item increase but I've noticed that some "final day" discounted prices at my local Lidl which used to be 20p are now 70p or even 90p. (As an example, that is product A which used to be regularly discounted to 20p is now reduced to 70p - an increase of 250%.)
Was surprised that Tesco's ice cream cones have gone up from £1.20 for 4 to £1.35. Not one of life's essentials, I grant you - but now struck off my list.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.2 -

Today I bought some beef mince (original price £1.89, I think) reduced to 90p. I think that would have been 70p in the past.

this weekend's Super deals included 24 rolls of one type of toilet roll. They were all sold yesterday according to a manager and so they put packs of 18 rolls by the sign instead. Whether that would have been a good buy I don't know.

I've just done an online order for delivery on Tuesday and the following items have gone up: Box of own brand teabags x 240 - up 30p; Block of beef dripping 250g - up 30p; Bag of own brand bread flour - up 25p (surprised that didn't happen sooner); Tomato puree - up 5p. Total of 90p.
But, own brand butter 500g - down 30p (still 55p more than it was two months ago though).
I also noticed there were lots of items in my Favourites list that are out of stock (and have been for quite some time) and I'm afraid the suggested alternatives (mostly branded rather than own brand) just aren't on my radar as they're far too expensive. So, thinking cap on or do without.Be kind to others and to yourself too.1 -
I shopped in my city centre Sains this morning and noticed like @YorksLass that there were quite a lot of obvious gaps on the shelves and that there was a lot less choice for many things such as bog roll, frozen fruit and flour.
This time last year Gold Blend 200g instant coffee jars were reduced to £4 from £7 and I stocked up on them every time I shopped, this year they're reduced to £5.50 from £7. I have always assumed that the reduced amount is the breakeven amount and is set by the retailer, does anyone know if that's right or not?2 -
saw online that Aldi's norpak soft butter is now £2.15 was £1.99 for 250gms. Now dow I buy some before I go on holiday and keep in the fridge or do I wait two weeks and find its gone up to £2.50 ? decisions, decisions
