I buy the standard 75p/kg oats for routine use in baking etc (trying to recall the price history on those - pretty stable for a good while I think?) but prefer the more expensive organic ones in the paper bag (Al’s own - NOT the Fl@havans one’s beloved of Instagram influencers!) for porridge as they give a creamier porridge with more texture than the smaller oats. I think I paid £1.79 for the last bag of those I bought - which gives me a “per bowl” cost of 7p a serving. (If using the cheapy ones it would be 3p) Realistically if they went up past the 10p/serving level I’d probably switch back to the basic ones cheerfully enough.

No I don't think that was me
Agree with decent sausages, I love my butchers pork sausages and have yet to find better
Tried an award winning butcher in Orkney, Jimmy's Farm and various other places but none have been as good as my butcher
Not cheap but I only eat 2 a week on Sunday
The other thing I will not compromise on is real block butter, the alternatives make me ill
And fish from a fish merchant never a supermarket
Other than that I am happy shopping in Aldi and Lidl :)

What Orkney ones did you try?
(I live in Orkney and have tried a few different ones).

Are they the Brogdale sausages Jackie O? I got a tray of them today and a huge piece of pork for half price. Took ages to cut up but now have three joints and ten pork slices in the freezer.

Every time I go to the supermarket something seems to have gone up.There was an interesting article I  the Telegraph online about more people starting to use lard and dripping again . My grandparents had a pig farm and about twice a year would have a pig killed which they shared with us. I can remember my grandma rendering down the bits of fat for dripping.

(I live in Orkney and have tried a few different ones).
The one in Stromness, my accommodation was there with no transport so never tried any in Kirkwall or anywhere else
I commuted to Orkney for 18 months, sometimes went home at weekends sometimes didn't
I got transport to work from work mates but food was the Coop or the butcher in Stromness or the local grocer?
    Can't remember the name
The Coop closed and then reopened across the road during that time if I remember correctly
