Yesterday I picked my DGC up from school last day . As I was walking into the school gate I was utterly amazed at some of the present bags going into school. Not bunches of flowers but big arrangements from florists , expensive chocolates . One mother had 5 gift bags in her hand . Now I am not against presents for teachers , classroom assistants but I feel for the children whose parents can't afford it. My DD won't be drawn into buying presents , she gets the children to make cards for their teachers etc . She can afford to buy them but doesn't. Just my view of course.
Anyway we sat and watched a film instead of going out as it was raining , the youngest was asleep .
Today I am off to my nieces belated 30th birthday family get together , she had Covid on her actual birthday, hoping the rain stays away.

I agree about the presents……I’ve had some amazing presents and I wasn’t even the teacher. It got very competitive with some of the parents. I had a couple of very generous restaurant vouchers when I worked in nursery 😳 it’s too much. I appreciated a home made card just as much. And the amount of smelliest and chocolate was ridiculous but nice to know we were well thought of.
Enjoy the party. It’s drizzling here. Hope it’s dry near you 👍

I didn't get sucked into all that - but I agree it could be overwhelming with the comparison trap.  My kids often made cards instead.

My cousins daughter is a teacher and the other year the HT sent a letter out to all parents saying if they wanted to buy the teacher a gift that was fine but not to spend more than a couple of £’s as it had started to become a competition between parents on who could spend the most. Teachers were receiving ear rings, necklaces, bags and expensive creams.xx

Are you having your DGCs a lot over the holidays? A break away will be nice for you and the DGDs.
I am having the eldest two for 3 Thursdays and all 3 for 4 Fridays . Taking the eldest 2 away Monday -Thursday next week.

Tomorrow we are off to Eureka at Halifax , this is free as we are using the pass for the last time. We are taking a packed lunch .

We’re taking our 2 eldest grandkids away towards the end of august for 5 nights. We did it last year and they loved it, hopefully it will be just as good this time. Love making memories with them and love being with them, also enjoy the rest when we get back.xx

My mum used to take my kids on holiday with her. They loved it and she used to spoil them rotten.
