Today I am tackling the dining room, which has become the dumping ground following the flood. I may be some time *cry*
I shall start at the doorway and work my way in. Please send help if I fail to reappear!10 -

Thought I'd drop in with a quick update.GeneralI've decided that, if I do nothing else on any day, the following are basic daily requirements:
- Sorting food for the day
- S&S Bathroom + 1
- S&S Kitchen + 1
- Washing up (including wiping down all surfaces and the stove top)
- 15 minute declutter
Everything else is, as they say, gravy. Fortunately I've managed to avoid CV19 so far but the vax aftermath's been a nightmare. I was in bed for a week, flat out for the first couple of days, with flu-ey symptoms each time. For almost the next month I was, literally, breaking out in a sweat if I washed up or cooked a meal. I still tire very easily. Thank goodness I didn't actually get it!Yesterday:- We ate from the fridge - toasted sandwich lunch and leftovers for tea.
- S&S Bathroom + cleaning side of bath, skirting boards and the door window ledge (a real dust-gatherer if it gets missed)
- S&S Kitchen + cleaning white wear, boiler and unit doors
- Washing up (including wiping down all surfaces and the stove top)
- 15 minutes clearing the floordrobe (so that's where all the coathangers went...!)
Plus, changed the bedding, washing it with tea towels and a top to make up the load; ironed 2 pairs of jeans and 10 t-shirts from the ironing backlog in the evening whilst catching up on TV.VerandahDuring the afternoon I worked on the verandah, trying to reverse the effects of the pigeons. Aaaaaah, the pigeons...@YORKSHIRELASS The pigeon proofing is a work in progress! I rent, so can't put up anything substantial and there are weak points. The pigeons are very good about this and keep pointing them out! You're right - the mess is appalling and quite difficult to shift.@Fayolle I hope the appointment went well. You have my sympathy about the cherry tree buds etc. With the exception of some raspberry canes they've killed and/or eaten every plant on the verandah, including some young fruit bushes I was over-wintering.@kazwookie I see why it's amusing about the buds but, given the above, I'm afraid I've lost my sense of humour a bit. (Rather like laughing about the - I think Danish? - ship that slid into the river on its maiden voyage, sailed 30 metres then sank. I was amused until I realised that very few could swim back then and almost every celebrant drowned...)
I never understood the anti-pigeon brigade before, but oh boy do I now. They're dirty, destructive vermin-with-wings and I don't think I've ever hated any living organism they way I do those birds.I was quite tired and achy, but was so angry looking at what they've done that I ran on pure adrenalin. (I tend to burn off anger with physical activity. I'm suffering for my temper tantrum today, of course, but it got things started!)I've begun repairing the carnage. The cage I've constructed has a space at the top covered with netting which needs stronger 'mooring' and the sides need better blocking. But at present I just keep putting it back as a temp fix and last night - even though they'd partially demolished it - they didn't actually invade the space! They looked miserable, forlorn and, I thought, accusing. I am, oddly, completely unmoved.Positive outcomes:- I've filled several binbags with rubbish and dead plants.
- I've mostly cleared the floor of their debris
- I was going to clean a lot of the stuff, but chucking is a much easier process when things are covered in pigeon... droppings.
- I've realised that there will always be more plant pots!
- The things I do want to keep to clean are sorted. The smaller stuff will be put in a bin and soaked in antibac and/or Jeyes Fluid.
- I've several bags of old compost to take down to my allotment to spread on the beds there, mixing it with manure
As hoped, this restored my sense of humour. At one stage I gave serious headroom to the idea of using the broom I was waving around (to steer them to an escape route I'd had to make) as a bludgeon. This quickly passed because (a) 1 flew into the broom instead of away from it and I realised I could never do it (b) I got an image in my mind of a dishevelled cartoon pigeon, squawking indignantly, with a ring of little humans circling its head!Anyway, it's raining and "6degC feels 4" where I am, so shall work mainly indoors. There's plenty to do and I'd better get on with it.Apologies for the length of post. Blame the pigeons. I am. (Should we call it a pigeon post?)

Basket.. make sure you wash your hands well and if moving a lot of poop you should wear a mask to protect from the dust.. it is very harmful to the health. We have some on the roof (netting was supposed to be on the solar panels last month.. still waiting!!!!) and we regularly have eggs and twigs and poop rolling off the roof.. they are terribly destructive.. I am considering shooting them.. or poisoning them.. if they are not paying board I don't want them here!TD airing stuff2 loads folded to go awayBoog can fling cat tray contents.DW needs doing twice, I have a mountain of washing upstairs, 1 item to post.. or it might be 2... Thanks for the interest and concern- sorry to hear you're a fellow-sufferer! I wash my hands frequently and certainly every time I leave the flat, even if it's only taking recycling downstairs (legacy of Covid). I do wear heavy duty rubber gloves to do jobs like this, but will still wash when I take them off. When I was googling 'How to Clean Up After Pigeons" the general advice was to wet it, so there's no dust and it's easier to move. Apparently it's a good fertiliser but, with respect to the gent who said that, I can't bring myself to put anything from those vermin on my soft fruit and veg! Basket I am sorry but I did have a chuckle at you with your broom taking on the pigeons, horrible things though, hope you find an answer.
And Dizzy much love, I just cant believe you are having to deal with being flooded again x
Work is really full on and I am finding it hard to switch off, not sleeping well. Cycled in today which was nice even if it was windy coming home. Think I will take the car tomorrow because my legs are a bit achy and I want to enjoy cycling with my ladies group on Saturday.
Trying to do a little flying every day, I put some music on upstairs last night and put all our clothes away and had a general bedroom tidy, it was so nice to wake up to a tidy bedroom this morning. Tackled a few bits of ironing tonight and made sure the kitchen was tidy.
DS2 has finally signed on a house for next year, which is a relief, I was worried that he wasnt going to find anywhere and travelling into the big city from here was just not going to work.
Going to watch a bit of telly I think.10 -
Evening all.
I've dealt with two big jobs in the past two days - one is done and dusted and the bulk of the other is done - I just need to deliver packets to 56 houses tomorrow morning. Was hoping for a bit of help from a friend with that, but she's not been well.
FUPA washing this morning. We are all fed and watered, so I reckon that's enough for today!
(((Hugs))) to all in need xx7 -
GI... I hope today has gone smoothly for MIL's send off xxx I hope DH has som eclosure.. big big hugs.
