  • I read something about the supermarkets fixing the prices of dairy products and it costs the consumer something like £270m, have a read here:

and also here for more recent news:

this was back in 2002/03 but there's no reason for them to stop doing it now. I think butter is ridiculously expensive at the moment. I think there's going to be a firm budget change in our house come new year.

While your at it can you ask him why Tesco colour washing powder has suddenly gone up from £1.67 to £2.50 a whopping 50% increase. Of course I've stopped buying it now....Good luck - keep us posted:money:

Reply full of flannel recd from Tesco they've not answered my question so I've thrown it back at them

Thank you for your email addressed to Sir Terry Leahy to which I have been asked to reply.

First of all, I would like to apologise for the delay in reply.

I was concerned to learn of your upset about the recent price increases within the dairy sector.

There has been unprecedented change in the dairy industry over the last few months concerning the supply of milk, as well as other base ingredients such as vegetable oils, etc. This has had a major impact on the cost of cheese, milk, butter, cream and yoghurt. A general shortage of available milk has forced the price up and this has affected most of the world's production.

The reasons behind this current situation are:

    • A huge increase in demand for dry milk and other dairy commodities from emerging markets like China, India and Russia

    • A massive loss of production due to the drought in Australia and the failure of New Zealand to increase production to compensate

    • A significant number of European and North American farmers moving away from milk production to more profitable areas of farming

    • Poor weather conditions during Spring and Summer in the UK resulting in a decline in production of over 6%

    • Major increases for the farmers on their costs mainly around animal feed

    • Significant price increases in oils

I can understand why you are concerned but I hope that this information has helped to explain the increase in dairy prices.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to contact us.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us at customer.service@tesco.co.uk quoting TES4480909X.

    Kind Regards

You knew you'd get a response like that, I knew you'd get a response like that. The price of yoghurt hasn't changed, I told you that would be the case.

What are you actually trying to achieve?

If you know the response you'll get before you complain especially when your emailing a CEO about the price of yoghurt the only real reason your doing this is to make a fuss just for the sake of it.

It's not consumer revenge etc etc you don't have to shop there. It's not "rolling over and taking everything" no one has to shop there or buy that sort of yoghurt. It's not being a "mug consumer" as you don't know anyone on heres buying technique and would have to make an assumption about that. You've been told on this very thread that there are perfectly valid reasons for the price of dairy products rising so you know that. You just want to complain about something don't you.

I also note that some Tesco Value items have disapperead without trace.

These include my favourite Tesco value Nachos and Value Pickled Onions.

Clearly Tesco WANT to lose their customers en masse.

 Just go back to my first post

"14p to 22p a whopping 50% rise. Your Value Yoghurt however has not increased in price and remains at 8p"

See my post (number 47 on this thread).

They don't have to explain this to you, all you need to know is that the price for the 22p carton of yoghurt is correct and there is a reason for the increasing wholesale costs of dairy products.

Customers just purchase, they do not run the place or need to be given the same information as the people who do. They will also not want to give out such information as you may well be someone who works for Asda etc trying to work out what whloesale price they may be paying for certain good.

They don't have to explain themselves to you, you need to start accepting this.

What the Op forgot to tell you Tim, is that they happen to be the majority shareholder on the board of Tesco Plc :rotfl:

A merry christmas to one and all, especially the yoghurt producers I say !!!:T

Tesco haven't had any own brand pickle products for a long while now, reason being a massive problem with their supplier of these products. Nacho's can't comment about but store ranges are being reviewed all the time, if a line isn't selling well enough in certain stores, then it won't be stocked.

You've been told this many many times, but in the interests of wasting my own time, your time, and MSE's bandwidth, I'll mention it again. Has it occured to you that they source the value product from a different supplier, who up until now has not increased their price, thus Tesco have no price increase to pass on.
