Stressful Completion - Seller Refused to Move Out!

Small further update. Although we would have a valid claim against previous owners (missing items detailed from inventory etc) we're just writing it off and moving forward. The stress of arguing with them - which they would argue I have no doubt - and possible small claims isn't worth a few £100 and an extra day fixing up the place. Thankfully my husband is able to resolve the damaged areas with minimal cost and things like the curtains I'd have replaced in time anyway. On the plus side we all love the house, our son is over the moon with what is going to be his new room, and the neighbour's lovely little cat already thinks she can move in too as I caught her cuddled up in the spare room! The last point means microchip cat flap fitting is a must for us as our girls won't be so keen on the fluff ball coming in even if she is rather adorable28

I'm so glad you're in LunaCatty and I think it is a great call just to put it all behind you! Your neighbour's cat sounds so cute.1

Thanks for updating the thread. Now go and enjoy your new home and put all the traumas of the week behind you!!2

Oh bless you @LunaCatty ! So glad you, Mr Luna, Master Luna and your furry family are finally installed. What a complete nightmare... wishing you every happiness in your new home. Bet it turns out that the previous occupants were thoroughly disliked by the rest of the village.

Sometimes you just have to leave people to karma5

OP, I've skimmed through the thread and am glad all is good now.
You've done the right thing, let it go and move on
The only thing I would say to all is, that the less you talk the better with the seller/buyer as things can get confusing. If any agreements are to be had re flexibility/access, get it in writing.
At times, I've noted some people try it on especially older ones, that is my experience.
Moving house can be stressful at the best of times and we have seen one of my siblings mess about with the exchanged dates and the dram before completion. Based on that I've promised myself never to buy a property with someone living in it.
and you often move in a lot quicker and hardly any drama1 -
A friend of mine bought their neighbours house (as a buy to let). The guy selling was retired and downsizing, it got to completion and he was still there, hadn't packed a thing! Apparently he just didn't understand that completion meant moving out!
