I agree with you about HM Ready Meals but shop bought are useful if cooking is a problem either because of health reasons like @SingleSue or perhaps limited cooking facilities. I think I'd be scouring the website for 'normal' ready meals that have lowish syns but that can add to the cost from some SMs. The Aldi Slimwell meals are quite good value.

Well done on getting the skirt done so quickly. I have loads of haberdashery bits and pieces which I've gathered over the years and some inherited from my mother. I've even got threads on wooden cotton reels! 🤣

For me, it is down to physical capability. These are still ones that go in an oven rather than a microwave and still leave me completely exhausted and in pain and at least it is something hot and looks like a proper meal rather than cold bits and pieces on a plate out of packets and tubs.

I didn't like the sausages,  middle son didn't mind them, we use plant based non SW ones that are not only very nice but also very low in syns. We have found a nice SW meal though, the hunters chicken, thoroughly enjoyed that one.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

@SingleSue the Aldi onion and rosemary sausages are really nice and much cheaper than the Linda McCartney ones.  If they have the Slimwell oven chips they are Free as well but I've never been able to find them!  I want to try them as my DH doesn't like the SW ones although I didn't mind them.

Glad you've managed to find at least one SW meal which both you and middle son like.  I know that some of the people at my group like the Banquet Rice ready meal but haven't tried it myself.  The braised beef and root veg mash meal is quite nice but think it needs green veg with it as well to make it a full meal.

@maman - I've got a load of bits and pieces of my mum's too but just can't find any hooks and eyes!  I've got loads of press studs but not much good on the skirt I've made as there isn't really the necessary overlap for that or for doing a button hole and button - I've got plenty of those!!!

Yes, @SingleSue, if you go to Aldi definitely try their veggie sausages which are syn free.

I've never found the Slimwell chips either @joedenise. I suppose you could have done a button and a loop  but as you can get a hook and eye from Amazon then it's good to have them in stock. I guard my dressmaking scissors, no one is allowed to use them for anything but cutting fabric.

I've ordered a box of different types of fastenings which will be useful for future projects.  No one is allowed to use my fabric scissors either but these are probably 25 years old so think it's time they're replaced!  They'll become the ones for cutting the paper patterns out to use - will have to mark them somehow to show they're the old ones as I've ordered exactly the same ones again - and they're only about £1.50 dearer than they were back then so definitely good value!

I thought about doing a button and loop but quite honestly they're too fiddly to do up at the back - a hook and eye or hook and bar will be much easier so that's what I'm going with.

The sausages are not the Linda McCartney ones, the name escapes me at the moment and the freezer too far away to check lol.

We did enjoy the hunters chicken but it would have to be a once in a blue moon meal as it was so expensive. Re the braised beef meal, the lack of green veg would suit me perfectly!

Alas, we do not have an Aldi close by otherwise we would certainly have given them a go.

Morning all, another horrible foggy one, in places it was worse than yesterday but others not as bad.  DH checked the Gatwick flights app to see what time DD1's plane was going to land as they were late taking off so thought it might be a bit later landing but no it said 3.15am!!!  It wasn't due until 4.20am originally so it looked like there must be a good tail wind to be able to make up the nearly hour they were late taking off and landing almost an hour earlier so I ended up getting up at 2am this morning!  By the time we were on our way and checked again it changed again to just before 4am so we knew we'd still be there before the plane landed.  By the time we actually got to the airport it had changed again and was back to 4.20am - it actually landed at 4.16am!  Finally got home just before 6.30am and now sitting down having a well deserved coffee before sorting out breakfast!

    So today's plan:

    B - breakfast hash - P; S; F
    L - vegetable soup; 1 slice bread
    D - mushroom stroganoff, rice - part HEA2; S; F
    S - 2 crisp breads, Primula Light - HEB; part HEA2

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - Primula Light
    HEB - bread/crisp breads
    Syns - none planned

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

I feel exhausted reading your journey @joedenise I would have gone back to bed!

Felt a bit out of sorts yesterday, no idea why and food wise didn't eat much.  DS had a bit of a bug at the start of last week so may have caught something from him.

    Today's plan:
B - bran flakes (HEXB), f/f Greek yoghurt, raspberries
    L - lentil soup
D - silverside, potatoes, carrots, broccoli, peas and onion gravy using Bovril cubes

    Have a good day everyone.
