Morning all,
Good to hear your mum is OK @Coxy11. Well done on the dress @joedenise, I'm totally ham-fisted when it comes to sewing!
Wisdom tooth was removed yesterday so although still tender, pain nowhere near as bad as it was over the weekend. Can only be SW-friendly too as all I managed yesterday was some yoghurt and a few spoons of cauliflower cheese DS made to go with his gammon steak for dinner.
Today's food:
B - f/f Greek yoghurt, banana
L - lentil soup (so looking forward to this!)
D - possibly a veggie omelette but will decide later
Have a good day all!0 -
We had a dreadful storm last night too @joedenise. the wind was 100 mph off The Needles. It cleared up a bit this morning but now it's back.
Glad you got your tooth sorted out @Jellybaby and feeling recovered enough today to enjoy your meals.
We really enjoy cauliflower cheese with gammon too. It was a dish I took off the menu when I first started SW but since the second HEA was introduced it's now much more SW friendly. I bought a piece of gammon last week but it's still in the fridge as I want to make soup and the freezer is packed.
Good news about your mum @Coxy11. She obviously felt better on Sunday although I expect she wanted to be back in her own place too. I've often seen pretty ceramic handles in TK Maxx, is that what you bought? 🤔
Today's EE plan-
B- HEB porridge, HEA milk, berries (S), banana (F)
L- Spanish omelette (P, S, F), ham (P), beetroot (S)
D- veggie chilli (P, S), brown rice (F)
Syns- 00 -

Quick update! Dinner will be beef stroganoff with basmati/wild rice mix. So will be using 2nd HEA for some Primula Light for the sauce.
I managed to get the neckline of the dress sorted and understitched - never done that before so actually ended up on line to see how to do it! Quite simple when you know how but usually I just catch the facing on the seam allowances each end and on the shoulders but this actually stitches the whole whole facing to the seam allowance and looks so much better. Glad to have learnt a new technique. Shows you're never too old to learn! I've been dress making for nearly 60 years now. Made my first wearable dress at the age of 13 at school and ended up in the end of year fashion show having been told by the needlework teacher that I'd never made anything wearable! Think it was the kick up the bum I needed to take it a bit more seriously; it certainly worked anyway!
I have to say this is the worst pattern I have every tried to follow! Nothing seems to fit together properly so I had to give up again. Will leave it now probably until Thursday or more likely, Friday when DH is playing golf again.
Hope your phone line and internet get sorted quickly @Vegastare.

Well done on persevering @joedenise! 👍🏼
I used to do a lot of dressmaking at one time. Then lots of soft furnishings but now it's just occasionally when the fancy takes me. I've recently embroidered a piece for a cushion cover (sound impressive but it's just Emma Bridgewater polka dot) so need to put that together and I got a cheap piece of PVC that I want to make into a cover for my rotary line. I learned all my skills from my mother. At school I just did hand sewing in the lower school and then took options that cancelled out any chance of crafts of any sort. The hand sewing was awful. We made an apron, a pair of baby's rompers and a seersucker nightdress over three years! The idea was to teach as many techniques as possible like bias binding, french seams, drawn threadwork etc but all by hand and really dragged out. So boring!
Sorry to hear about your signal problems @Vegastare. 4 tbsps each portion seems like a lot of cornflour to thicken your stew. 🤔0 -
That must have been awful @maman! I learnt to use an electric machine to make the apron right at the start of the 1st year of secondary school. Up until then I'd only used my mum's treadle machine - loved that machine and was really annoyed when she traded it in for an electric one!
I also had to make a baby's dress and apparently when I did the hand sewing I sewed it the wrong way for a right handed person so I was made to undo it and restitch it in the opposite direction! I ended up having to make it in detention after being given 7 detentions in one double lesson (80 minutes) - I really wasn't being naughty or anything but I argued that it didn't make any difference what direction I sewed in as long as it held together and apparently that was wrong. Was quite lucky that the teacher in charge of detention the next day agreed with me that it was stupid to give me 7 detentions for something so stupid so I only actually did about 20 minutes instead of 7 x 30 minutes!
I absolutely hated school!

Evening all 😁
Coxy, I'm sorry I missed your mum was poorly, but glad she is on the mend xx
I used to hand sew for a living. 8stiches to the inch ! And yes they used to randomly get measured. I loved that job, the factory moved and I did go with it but didn't like the traveling, so I left 😂
Jelly, hope your mouth is ok? I have also been dentist today 🤣 I'm sure we are twins 😂😂 but I said to DH my tooth feels funny, not the one he filled another one! He's knocked a chunk off it 😰I need to ring in the morning.

Morning all,
Yes that's right @maman I was after some hand painted ceramic handles. Managed to find 12 the same for our bedroom furniture but having an issue with the spare room. Got some clear crystal (plastic) types ones in the end but will keep looking!
Ooh darning @beanielou - do you have a mushroom?
My sewing machine skills are limited to straight lines @joedenise. I was of the generation that did a combo of needlework/home ec/woodwork/metalwork so never made anything of note as only had a few weeks of each! I do knit, crochet and embroider though (self taught/you tube).
Hope your tech issues get resolved soon @Vegastare, and that @Jellybaby and @bubbs' teeth issues aren't too awful. I hate going and am next due in between Christmas and New Year!
We saw The Banshees of Inisherin last night - a great film for many reasons. Catch it if you can.
Today's food:
B - melon, blueberries, grapes, poached egg, 1 x WM toast - S, P, 1/2 HEB
L - JP, baked beans, 2 x satsumas - 1, S
D - SC gammon in pepsi max, cauli cheese, broccoli, stringless beans, carrots, brussels - 3 syns (ready made cauli cheese but using HEA for the cheese)
HEA - milk
1/2 HEB - hi fi bar
Syns - 4
