On the subject of substitutesI very often see recipes - soups/curries/stews and, especially vegetarian meals - that suggest bulking up with tomatoes ("yummy and one of your 5 a day")Unfortunately for me, they make me ill. I do use red lentils a lot for this, but is there anything else? I'm thinking in particular of what can replace the garlic butter I use to replace the tomato on pizza? For anyone like me who feels much better for not eating wheat - stomach pains, migraines, joints swelling like arthritis etc - I think I've got this covered.I tend to use cornflour to thicken gravies, make sauces etc. It makes lighter sauces and freezes better than a traditional roux and it's good for making berry coulis too.I try to look on the bright side. GF bread, pastry and especially pizza dough and croissants being awful is a Good Thing. Think of all the butter, cheese and other goodies you pile on - especially if it's a croissant. Then I go into a quiet room and cry...A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

I've seen pizzas with creme fraiche instead of tomatoes - would the half fat type work?
Bulking up - I love courgettes and onions so will pile those in. Courgettes in a pasta sauce are lovely - or roasted with onions, peppers, mushrooms all rubbed with a bit of olive oil and a good dollop of herbs are great. I add a few new potatoes which I try to avoid and the OH likes those.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Well done on losses and STS this week 👏
Basketcase I have put pesto on pizzas rather than tomato sauce, you have to be wary of calories but a little goes a long way. When I was at school we were taught to use cornflour in sauces if we were going to freeze as it stopped them splitting, but that was a long time ago 😁
I hope everyone is having a good weekend 🙂Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin5 -
Good morning everyone
Changing my weigh in day from a Monday morning to Sunday morning due to early appointments on a Monday over the next six week. Weigh in this morning -1lb
basketcase I am gluten intolerant haven't been able to eat anything with gluten for the past 7 years. I make all my gravies and sauces with rice flour it works really well.
Bread used to be my downfall before going gluten free but now I eat just two small pieces of schar seeded loaf a day and I don't really miss it or pastries anymore
Well done for all the losses and sts

Hi
Well done losers and sts’s.
I’m gluten intolerant ☹️ ( and constantly moan about it lol ). I only have bread when I’m desperate for toast once in awhile, have discovered how to make croissants more edible for me but the textures are not the same. Theres a long list of cakes and biscuits that are very acceptable to me though 🙄
Yesterday
Breakfast: coconut chia pud, blob of yoghurt, fruits of the forest; 2 creamy coffees
Main meal (at restaurant) tandoori mixed grill {chicken tandoori, tikka and garlic tikka, fish tikka, lamb sheesh} kachumber salad {tomatoes, onion, cucumber, grated carrot, red cabbage}, mint yoghurt sauce; masala tea without sugar
After: 1 x gin, soda and lime
Think I managed quite well eating out. I usually have wine with food but purposely avoided as I can’t stick to just 1 glass. Didn’t need another gin soda as 1st went straight to head!Today
Breakfast: dippy eggs and crispy streaky bacon soldiers: 2 x coffee with cream
Main meal: coronation chicken salad, ham mustard cheese rolls, smoked salmon lemon mayo pinwheels, cucumber cream cheese thins; strawberries and clotted creamOld Style Weight Loss Challenge 2025
