Worth also remembering that the card details displayed in app are actually a virtual card linked to your physical card, which has its own different card number (check receipts showing partial card details from contactless/C&P transactions using your physical card). Therefore, the physical card probably wouldn't need to be replaced in order to get a new card number in app.
This statement is interesting, I’ve only just opened the Chase current account so haven’t seen that there yet and haven’t noticed that detail with the FD virtual vs real card.
This is why you can use your Chase card details in app to make online payments before your physical card is activated. You'll find when your physical card arrives, it cannot be used until you activate it.

Do you need the app up and running to use the physical card?

Just a heads up if you are a numpty like me.

To activate the card, you open the app and tap the blue Chase logo on the top of the home screen. Not tap the physical card to your phone like I kept doing (as my phone has NFC)

Plus you can then go into "See Details" and it gives your 16 digit card number, expiry date and CVV numbers, so presumably you can pay for online transactions.

I was surprised that the card details page allowed me to do a screenshot. Many bank and financial pages block this function somewhere in their code. Useful thing for me to have, but now there’s a full set of my card details being archived somewhere in Google’s servers 😬
If that is an issue for you, block your card, report it as stolen and request a new one.
I’m not that paranoid, at all. If I try to take a screenshot of my First Direct card details a pop-up appears saying that action is not permitted. We all know how Google Photos can pop up a search result from just a word or a phrase that you once took a snap of. Just thought it was a mildly interesting point.
I'm not a big fan of apps restricting my phone's features in the main. Preventing other apps drawing over a banking app is one I would be happy to accept for the obvious implications. However, the use case here is presumably that someone couldn't quickly grab your phone and screenshot and share your card details. It does not stop you or anyone else from taking a photo of the phone screen with another device, nor does it prevent you from writing down or saving the details in a document on your phone. So it seems to fall under what is known as "security theatre", giving the impression of security without sufficient substance.
In the age of Strong Customer Authentication, and with such a large number of card details being breached by other means, it would probably be a pragmatic view that the risk associated with this activity is not particularly high.
I suspect the limitation of screenshots in other apps, including banking ones, is the whole app, not just certain screens.
This would be to prevent screen capture/recording of other sensitive information e.g login details, by malware rather than users.

I assume Chase decided that providing support for an app only account, without having screenshots would be harder.
I was surprised when Chase support asked for a screenshot of an error message, as I didn't think the app would allow screenshots

I have 5 other banking apps no problems, i did speak to Chase support didn't really get a cognative answer other then '' it seems your phone is not supported'' The software coders should be burning the midnight oil to get this fixed.
I suspect they're not particularly interested in supporting 32bit hardware given it's such a small percentage of the market.
I suspect building a website that any device can use, old or new, will probably be more of a priority indeed.
I don't think Chase has any plans to expand to online banking via website. The general trend is a move away from web in favour of app-based.
Starling started as an app-only bank and then launched a website. If they want to cover the maximum number of customers (who may not have the correct versions of smartphones), then it's a possible strategy.

Of course, if they want to take customers from Starling or Monzo, who tend to be younger with recent smartphones and tech-savvy, then an app-only approach will be sufficient.

You need to activate the card with the app before first use.

You do  not need the app when making a purchase at a physical till but if you are making an online purchase, you will invariably be asked to confirm the purchase in your app.

Thanks, I was unaware Starling now supported browser-based online banking and I'm a customer!

I have tried to order an item from Amazon using the card and it sends me to the app and I have to confirm the transaction. Anyone else had this and is this gonna be a thing I have to do all the time? Also I tried to update the payment details of an item I had pre ordered and again it sent me to the chase app to confirm it, which I did…… I then got an email from Amazon 10 min later saying payment had been declined even though there is money in the account.

Yes, all card issuers must now confirm online transactions via SMS, email or app, using a risk based strategy. Chase is doing it for most online payments. Not had any issues confirming any payments in the app.

And first purchase with new card will be high on the risk level.

I had an odd scenario with an order from a supermarket, which required validation when the order was placed, but payment wasn't taken until order modify time closed (just before midnight).
In the morning I had a prompt from Chase waiting for me to confirm again, which was 8 hours old.
    All went through okay.

The first interest payment has come through on the Savings account... So it's good to see that part of the system isn't struggling with demand
