10 years to clear £334K - our FIRE journey

I repeat to myself "Do NOT think about work, do NOT think about work" over and over to try and drown out any other consciousness (also use this if I'm just thinking about any random thing and not actually thinking about work - "work" is a handy one-syllable word to focus on 🤣!) Doesn't always succeed, but is helpful enough times to persevere with!
(Being less conscientious and not giving two hoots about whether I've forgotten to do something, and/or achieving early retirement are my preferred solutions, but somewhat more tricky to achieve 😅!)Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -
Very sage advice thanks both. And SH FIRE is my preference to resolve it too!
Had a letter from a bank saying I had a dormant account with them with some money in. Went into branch yesterday and there was £70 in an ISA I emptied to use as the deposit when we bought this place almost 10 years ago. Assume it was interest due but not showing when I withdrew the balance. Very nice bonus!
Will use £20 to Op the mortgage and hopefully get under £300k next week and the rest can buy OH and me lunch out some time.

Have access to the surprise ISA and have OPd £20. Hopefully by Friday we will be sub £300k.
Got two big pieces of work on, both caused by other team members and external managers getting involved. Can't wait for the weekend.4 -
Love the kittens!Similar to KK in that I use the insomnia for positive planning for the garden. I used to email myself at work if I had an idea or needed to remind myself about something.Bonus £70 - nice!My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
