Mediation is a total waste of time. The only people who benefit are thr parking company or their legals as they get to take your money and reduce their costs/ risks of loss and still net a fat profit!
I told them to poke it when I was offered mediation. They'll come out with a load of BS about them doing you a favour, offering you a way out and that their case against you is "strong" etc etc. It's just pathetic gaslighting in order to press on any anxieties people may have to wheadle money out of them and reduce their Costs, time-frame and most importantly risk (their cases aren't strong and they lose way more than they win).
They only do it for those above reasons and some of them actually rudely and begrudgingly say they are only doing because the court expects them to which is Utter rubbish as its not mandatory at all.
Excel/ VCS (formerly Captain Clampit wheel Clamping business) are notorious, relentless and ruthless bullies! There is endless evidence online.
EDIT - Do NOT be afraid to tell the Court you felt pressured into agreeing to Mediation and still dispute the charge! Did you not realise that Mediation wasn't the actual hearing and didn't know you could decline it? From me further reading this post - that is what I perceive has happened. If I'm right then make sure you explain this early on!!!
I didn’t know what to expect from court/mediation an got scared an thought mediation would help and stop them from harassing me , I didn’t know they favour people like excel more , until I seen this forum

You're definitely NOT an idiot. We've all fell into one of their trap carparks which is why most of came here because we knew we hadn't done anything wrong and wanted to find out more in order to defend ourselves from their spurious claims. The bulk of these claims stem from hidden signs, unfair terms, double standards, them not following their ATA protocols so they initiate a spurious claim by trying to exploit a loophole or misrepresentation of contract law - this was the case in mine. If you ever speak to a debt company on the phone they deliberately give it large and try and wind you up (because its not recorded) and are no doubt instructed to be antagonistic! I had some jumped up little pipsqueak give it the "Well looks like we'll be seeing you in court and getting it then"! Pathetic behaviour. I did it as my part of my investigation, but I'd normally advise people not to engage with them as its pointless. I was trying to get an insight to how they work.
I came on here not knowing anything other than "it wasn't right" then sought advice, schooled myself on contract law/ parking regulations, the tricks of their trade, previous case law and judicial disposals. I successfully defended my case in court in which the Judge dismissed it. I've since continued to stick around and have used my experience to help and empower others. Just as everyone here is doing and no doubt you won't too in the future. I'm no way an expert but know enough - the good news is there are experts here regularly contributing - including ones who helped shape the new government code around private parking).
My story is nothing unique. Stick around and i guarantee you won't feel "like an idiot" - (the fact that you came here to proactively seek help and learn more dissolves that idea!).
Don't let these parasites gaslight you with their psychological bullying and sew any seeds of doubt. They do thus because they are already on the backfoot so they play dirty. You can't be nice - you got to go for the Jugular and fight fire with fire! 🔥 The good news is you are in the right place!8 -

one question I have is because I sent the N180 questionnaire to moneyclaims to accept mediation because I didn’t know what I was doing , I thought it was best but I’m gonna say no to that now
what do I do about the letter from excel now saying I have 14 days to make payment so it doesn’t go to court1 -

Nothing.
Standard letter. You want it to be heard or discontinued, so you want it to progress!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

they won’t send bailiffs if I ignore it
I don’t think they have got the mediation letter yet0 -
Yes, ignore the letter.
No, they won't send bailiffs. That can only happen if you lose the court case, and you don't pay the judgment. Even if you lose, you will be paying less than they are currently claiming. The UK Government has stated quite clearly that fake add on charges are prohibited.
Don't worry about the mediation hearing. Take the call, stay calm and polite, keep saying no, then end the call.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister. All my screwdrivers are cordless."You're Safety Is My Primary Concern Dear" - Laks6
