C1 Scotland Inventory
Comments

Hi, can I ask a question on the inventory section. I'm completing the C1/C2 on behalf of my mother who's the executor and beneficiary of my late father's will. His only assets were bank accounts/ISAs so this thread has been really helpful in completing this.
I was prompt in stopping his state pension and DWP wrote to advise that there was an amount due to him. This was 2 weeks of unpaid pension of around £200. It's now been paid to my mother, but I think reading the C1 guidance this should be on the inventory anyway (pg 12 "benefits or arrears of pension due but unclaimedfrom the Department for Work and Pensions"). Is that right?
I've added this as
Department for Work and Pensions
State pension owed to deceased at date of death £xxx.xx
Does that seem ok - or add his NI number as a reference?
Also would this be listed under property in Scotland or England/Wales?
I may be overthinking this, but I couldn't see this in any examples so just wanted to check.

Hi.
Would anyone be able to confirm whether life insurance would come under moveable estate in Scotland, or England. Everything else is in Scotland and the bank accounts are due to the branches but the life insurance appears to have been done either by post or online and the only address I can link it to is the head office in England. Would this therefore need to be under Moveable estate in England?
Thank you0 -

Thank youAssuming that the policy is one that needs to be listed on the inventory.
Currie on Confirmation of Executors describes current practice (in 2011) as ‘where the issuer resides, and if the issuer has a residence in more than one country, at the office where the policy proceeds are primarily payable’.
(Though somewhat inconsistently, there is internal court guidance for small estates which allows insurance to be listed as moveable estate in Scotland).

Thank you so much for your helpLife policies much simplified
- In name of deceased on own life, or in name of deceased on another’s life: part of estate
- In name of another on deceased’s life: not part of estate but include in IHT calculation
- Effected by deceased on own life for benefit of spouse or children: not part of estate, vests in trustees
Your inventory might pass, but here are some suggestions on it.
- Leave nil entries un-numbered.
- For the dwelling house valuation say only ‘value estimated by executor’
- For furniture and personal effects add ‘value estimated by executor’
- For bank accounts add ‘balance at date of death including interest’
- For life assurance policy entry add ‘on the life of the deceased’ (if accurate)
- Instead of ‘Heritable estate in England and Wales’, say ‘Real estate in England and Wales’
- Instead of ‘Moveable estate in England and Wales’ say ‘Personal estate in England and Wales’
- Same for Northern Ireland - ‘Real estate’ and ‘personal estate’.

Thanks for all your help with this. I think we are almost there. In terms of doquetting the will. Is it essential that this is done at the top of the page. I'm concerned that there isn't a lot of room and it could look messy, where there's more white space at the bottom0

If you cannot write the docquet on the top of the first page then I don’t think this is a problem. Remember the will docquet needs the same signing date as the C1.

Hello all,
Just a little background information before I list my questions below. I am the only executor. My mother owned her house, she didn't jointly own it she was the only owner. Her estate and belongings are to be left to me, my brother and sister.
Was wondering if anyone could help with a few sections of the C1 form I'm unsure of. I am my mothers executor and I am named on her will. However, my address has changed and is different to the one mentioned on her will. I'm struggling with the wording for section 2 of the declaration which begins "That I am". Can anyone assist with this? I've seen previous comments with the wording but none that include how to word it with a change of address.
The little section below which reads "have entered or" I have the option of 'are' or 'am'. These both seem pretty similar so I'm unsure of what to choose there.
If I've understood correctly, I don't have to fill out any of the IHT400 form as the value does not exceed £325,000. Am I correct to think this?
Sections 21 and 22 of the form, I have ticked yes for section 21 because the estate is not an excepted estate due to the value being less than £325,000, am I correct with this? Section 22 I'm unsure if this is a yes or no based on my previous answer. Sections 23, 24, 25 and 26 I have entered £0.00 as there is no IHT due as the value is less than £325,000, am I correct to think this?
The carried forward amount at the bottom of the inventory is £134,892.40. My mother had a funeral plan which covered the majority of her funeral expenses but not all, do I include the total amount of her funeral expenses in box 12 titled 'Less funeral expenses'?0
