I would not touch an MG3 with a 10 foot barge pole - they are outdated and polliuting - they are cheaply made and cheaply driven - they should not have been allowed to desecrate the name of a once great UK name.
Do they even offer an AUTOMATIC version ?- doesn't  look like it
They are like an Allegro, or Marina was in terms of modernity and design - ie) 20 years out of date. I mean dear god - a 105bhp 1.5 naturally aspirated engine.
I would spend my £12k on a 3 year old Suzuki Swift or similar.

Thought this thread was about EV? So what has an MG3, a car that is getting on for 15 years old, got to do with anything?
That was my fault. Mouldy was trying to imply that EVs were vastly more expensive than combustion by trying to compare a £35k EV to a £14k ICE and I pointed out that the base spec MG3 is one of the only cars available in his budget.
Fair enough and yes there are (much) better cars in that sector and price range. But looking at "affordable" EVs the MG ZS EV is very tempting and scores well in reviews. I would seriously consider one, if in the market for a new car now.

I had an i10 rental car before Covid and whilst it was nice enough the base model engine is woeful. I'd need to spec it beyond the £14k if I was buying one.

Anyway, are you really saying that those cars in base spec are literally the only ones you'd consider?

Once-great UK name? I thought we were talking about MG.

Made from the spare parts bin of the companies which gave us the aforesaid Marinas and Allegros.
Those were the days when I had an Allegro and aspired to upgrade to an Ital.

Oh wait, it's an MG4 EV. Probably the best value EV so far when it arrives...

I believe that it was at least 10 new cars for £14k but also with a 3 year warranty which your second hand EV's will sadly lack

You need to stop moving the goal posts. Of course a used car will have less warranty than a new one. You need to compare like for like, which is surprisingly easy because many new cars come with a combustion or electric motor with the same warranty.

I understand you dislike electric cars for some reason, but it'd help your case if you have reliable, factual arguments instead of the usual FUD.

The MG EVs have a 7 year warranty. So much FUD.

My 2yr old used EV had 2yrs remaining on the original warranty and I have extended for the last 2yrs for just £300/yr.

Battery is under warranty for 8yrs so still have till Jan 2025 for that.

£300/yr is £25/month ... is the warranty extension good value for that outlay?

Well so far no, as it's been trouble free!

But I've seen how much the motor replacement of AC unit or charging unit can cost. Besides, you can't get it again if it lapses so will help resale.

It's from Renault so similar to the manufacturer warranty.

How much are replacement motors / charging units then ?
