  • Well done on the eBay sale .
Have you looked at the next door website ? Apart from the usual lost cats etc you may find recommendations for someone to sort your fence situation out ..

Not really been around as I havent done anything except feel quite ill and be very hot. Usual jobs done but nothing else as I just cant raise the energy or enthusiasm. I will be so glad when the weather cools down a bit and we arent in the red zone thank goodness.

I was up before 6am this morning to walk the dogs before it got too warm and have just been out as Mr H was getting very stressed at not going out even though it was still a bit hot. He will have his usual walk at 10pm when hopefully it will be cooler but because it will be dark he will have to stay on his lead. I think another early walk tomorrow and Tuesday.

No spend days yesterday and today but I will need milk tomorrow.I think it will be an expensive purchase as to avoid the heat I will go early so wont be able to use my bus pass.

One bit of good news is the fence guy has messaged me. I am still on his list but they are running behind due to the heat so hopefully they will be here soon I hope not the week of the 25th as Mr LH is at a festival from the Wednesday and I will need help moving stuff or if he does come that week he gives enough warning so it can be moved before he goes away.

Anyway that enough wittering for now. I hope everyone stays safe over the next few days

I hope you and your dogs manage to stay cool over the next couple of days. We have quite a few trees in our garden so there’s shade for the dog and cats. They all insist on being outside however hot it is.

Good news you’re still on the fence guy’s list. Hope he comes before or after Mr LH goes to the festival.

It has been a very trying 36 hours. The heat is just unbearable, the temperature in the lounge rose to 29.5 despite closed windows and curtains. The dogs have been miserable as have I. Mr LH has largely slept through it.  I  caught the bus yesterday to do a bit of shopping which arrived 10minutes later than it should have. Then on the way home the bus missed the turn to my stop so I had a longer walk home. By the time I got home I could barely breathe.

The rest of the day I have just sat and melted, little sleep last night so I cant see anything much being done today. The dogs have been for a walk. Fortunately the temperature is due to be a little lower today but the lounge is still 27.5 so will likely go up again as the day wears on.

Still nothing doing on money saving but at the moment I cannot concentrate on anything, even reading is hard. My brain has turned to mush in the heat. Roll on tomorrow when although still warm the very hot weather will be over at least for now.

27.5 indoors here too, @ladyholly, but that's at least 10°C lower than outside. Do you have a fan? We ordered one on click & collect the other day, as neither Mr F or I are good in high temperatures, so we did get some sleep last night as we had it running. I've also got it set up in the living room atm. It's not on all the time, but it's helping when I need a blast of breeze to.keep.me going. Prices on some of the fans were high but we just went with a JL basics £20 one & it's doing the job. We've just decided we have to get through it hour by hour & look forward to reduced temps starting hopefully overnight. This would sound ridiculous to globetrotting sun-worshippers, I know, but I definitely prefer low 20s (25° max) for sunny summer days.
Off to fetch another glass of water.......
    Take care,

  • You have my sympathy LH..
I live in a sun trap ( gd flr converted flat / bay windows etc). I kept the blinds shut most of last couple of days to keep heat out . I have been having 3-4 showers a day , and I thank the lord that I got a Dyson fan when I moved here .
While avoiding being sweaty and clammy , it's the humidity that is overpowering for me at times . Last night was the most uncomfortable , and today sat in the living room it seems to be the hottest day so far .
I feel for the animals , and people working in this heat when when it is difficult to do so.

As you say , tomorrow is a day to look forward to . Looking at the weather apps, it seems like tonight may not be as bad 🤞

My fan is on all day and night at the moment i am dreading the electricity bill. Me and animals are keeping cool with iced treats and lollys. Put some of the lick treats in freezer for cat and she's been going nuts for them! Made bunny smoothie fruit cubes, doesn't seem as keen but has been eating it.

Many thanks all. Yes we have a fan which has been on all day today and yesterday. I dont have it in the bedroom as Mr LH stays up very late so leave it for him. The temperature in the lounge today has risen to 29.5 again. All the fan seems to do is move the hot aair around. I will have a look for a cheaper fan for the bedroom before next summer. It needs to be fairly quiet or it will keep me awake.
The dogs are not keen on frozen treats but have been keeping water in the fridge to keep their bowl cool. Strangely neither of them is drinking as much a usual.

We dont have blinds in the conservatory but I have dcided come hell or high water by next summer we will have. It only gets the sun until about 11am but I am sure blinds will help. I think some thicker lounge curtains or blackouy lining to the existing ones might help as well.

The vets rang todaay to tell me we owe £99 but according to the insurance company we owe £72 so a job for tomorrow is to find out why the discrepancy. I hope I am not going to have the same problem as last time when it took ages for them to sort it out and it was their error.

Right to quote Foxgloves I am off to get anotherr glass of water.

I have just been looking at the BBC news website and OMG those poor people who have lost their homes to wild fires in the eastern part of the country. I cannot imagine how devastated they must be. It certainly puts my moans about the heat into perspective at least we are still here and still have our home. The lounge is only 26 this morning and I have opened all the doors and windows to try to reduce that a little. It was lovely out with the dogs this morning. It is certainly much cooler today.

I told Mr LH that we are getting blinds for the conservatory before next  summer and he just smirked and said I told you so. Indeed he did but I didnt want to spend the money while we are still paying the loan.

On a different note when I turned the radio on the governor of the bank of England, in his Mansion house speech last night, said that interest rates would more than likely rise by another 0.5% in August. I am so glad we dont have a mortgage. It must be very worrying for those that do.

Enough rambling for now I am off to change the bed and put some washing on before going to the vet to sort out (hopefully) this bill.

I’m glad we fixed the remaining 4 years on our mortgage when rates were low. I’m dreading what the gas/electricity payments will go up to later this year.

I hope you get the vet bill sorted.
