What a sad coincidence with the dates 🙁 Our birth certificates are all in a little tin folded up if that’s any clue.

Is there any possibility your bil might have given the certificates to his solictor to hold? Perhaps when your sister died and he was dealing with her will/updating his will?

Anything is possible. I will be using the solicitor that he used so when I see him I can ask.  I seem to have everything else including his parents death certificates just not theirs

Do not worry about them until you find there is a need for them, which unless something wasn't dealt with fully earlier shouldn't happen.
For an example, when my father died I was still working so my mother & sister dealt with most of it.  Whoops they forgot one thing.  I can never remember what kind of ownership it is but when either of them died it automatically became the property of the other (it could not be left elsewhere).  They didn't change the ownership to just our mother.  We had to sell when she needed care.  Not a problem they said, just need the death cert.  This won't happen here but it was a little bit of a problem as, much to my mother's annoyance, my father had died on a cruise, so a translation was required.

That's a coincidence about the dates.

Hopefully all the admin related paperwork will feel easier when you have handed over to the solicitor.  It's tough doing all the formalities when trying to find all the papers that the person has stored in their own way.  Plus the emotional toll of coming to terms with a loss.

when my mum died her paperwork from 10/20/30 years ago was beautifully and systematically organised but more recent papers were a muddle I suppose because of her memory issues.  I coukd easily find a phone bill from September 1992 but I couldn't find her will and was trying not to alarm my dad.   I recall him calling upstairs 'what you doing up there?" and me NOT calling back "I'm ferreting around in all the places that I haven't already searched in order to find which safe place mum has put her will, your will and the deeds to the house 🥴"

Be kind to yourself and take your time,

This is a lesson to all of us to make sure we have a place for everything & everything in its place.  I have a box file for my DS labelled what to do if I can't.  It has my will, my POAs both of them, the deeds, the freehold & where the money is or at least was.  Hopefully I will have remembered to update it & not lost it like a friend did with a car in late 2021 & is getting fined all over the place & is about to lose his licence because of it & I am the one getting stressed, totally unbelievable.

Yes really strange re the dates. I think I have found everything for tell it once but if I miss anything I will have to do it separately.
We did bring back 7 televisions, 5 dvd/video players and 17 assorted remote controls!  All but 2 of the TVs work and mr LH is working his way through the rest. All the remotes have so far worked. It is keeping him busy anyway.
Meanwhile I am just taking my time to relax a bit and catch up with lost sleep. I think I am gradually recovering from the shock of him going so fast and unexpectedly not to mention the stress of sorting the cat. It has all hit me hard and I am very surprised by that after all I knew he was going down hill and 91. I fell asleep this morning and woke suddenly when Bear barked and thought I was still in bed and was up very late to take him out. A minutes panic then realized all was well.
Not much else to say tonight so I will go back to watching Neil Diamond on tv
Take care and have a good evening.
