A very brief one. The cat was collected dead on time so all well. We have only just got home. What should have been a 3 hour journey turned into a nearly 6 hour journey due to a hay lorry being on fire on the M4. Motorway was closed between 2 junctions so a long diversion. I have been up since 5.30am and am shattered so will end here. More tomorrow.
I hope others have had a better evening than us.5 -

Evening allYesterdays trip home was a nightmare as we spent about 2 hours travelling at 4 miles mph. The car engine was getting a bit warm to say the least. Then we were diverted off the motorway into places we dont know and by that time it was getting dark so finding the diversion signs was hard. We entually got home about 9.45pm and because the chip shops round here close at 9pm I had to cook a meal (only sausage and chips) and by the time poor Bear got out for a walk it was 10.30pm. I thought I would sleep well but still woke up in the early hours for a a couple of hours.Today has been a busy one as I have spent most of it trying to sort the reams of paperwork (some of it going back to about 2005) to discover what companies my bil has money in. It hasnt been an easy job and I am only half way through but I think I am beginning to find the relevant companies. Loads of stuff addressed to my sister including a NS & I savings book which appears to have a little money in it. I will be glad to hand it all to the solicitor hopefully next week. At least he should know what he is doing. While we were there yesterday I icked up a couple of letters, one of which was for him to have an ECG in June. I rang to cancel it and the person I spoke to seemed surprised I had rung. No wonder the lists are so long if people dont cancel appointments they cant attend. While we away yesterday my dd who was dog sitting rang to say our TV had lost the picture so today we out to the shop that sounds like an Indian meal. Having found the one we wanted I went to the counter and asked for some help. The woman I spoke to said she would help when she had served the customer she was with. Fair enough but when we next saw there she another assistant were talking to the customer. Does it really take 2 people to serve someone when they know someone is waiting. I then returned to the cash desk where there was a man who was possibly the manager and asked him for some help. I was told again to go and wait. I pointed out I had already been waiting for a while. He told me he only had 3 assistants today but made no move to help us himself so we told him we would go elsewhere and came home. Is this really the way customer service is when you are basically to told to go away and you will be served when we can be bothered. Anyway the upshot is we will get one elsewhere and they have lost a sale.I have sold a couple of things today so they will be posted tomorrow along with about three dozen letters informing people of the death. No money spent today but there willbe tomorrow when we order a TV and the postage.I think thats enough gripes for today. Have a good evening.

Thank you MFWannabe and beanielou. At the moment we are using the one we brought back from my bil. As his house is bit isolated we wanted to get the most stealable items out of the house or at least the ones that might appeal to casual burglars.1

We got ours from Argos."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

evening all.I slept better last night and didnt wake until 6.20am which is am improvement. Parcels and letters to bils friends etc posted and a bit of shopping done including the all important dog treats. The rest of the morning was spent finishing going through bils paperwork and have realised that both my sister and my bil died on April 17th just 5 years apart. Some coincidence. His paperwork is an absolute mess with everything mixed up together. The strange thing is I cant find any birth, death or marriage certificates and I think I have got everything from his house. The only thing I havent done is the tell it once form which I will attempt tomorrow when I am feeling fresh.Nothing else done today but have managed to relax a little this afternoon. I am now going to list one or two bits for sale.Have a pleasant evening.1

Glad you had a decent nights sleep.
Those dates are quite the coincidence!
Would he have hidden important documents somewhere? Sock drawer or fake can in a cupboard sort of thing?1 -

I wouldnt have thought so as everything else was all over the house. I think I have looked in all the drawers etc. but I may well come across them. I dont know if I need them but if I do I will have to get copies.
